A stalemate was one of the more positive possible outcomes from today’s SPL meeting. Such are the layers of intimidation which have been levelled across a spectrum of football clubs, bodies and individuals in the last week, it was difficult to imagine SPL chairmen standing up for sporting integrity after Sandy Jardine’s ominous words.
Unfortunately, for the Magnificent Duff and Phelps, they will have to shred plans to blame someone else for the shambles they are, kind of, administering. Their creative talents will be taxed to the limit to explain for another two weeks why it is in creditors interests to consume available monies while Craig Whyte has not moved an inch in 10 weeks on demands for his shares of stadium security.
The narrative of this story is also important. Angry Ally could have blamed the SPL chairmen for Rangers imminent descent into oblivion, and demanded to know where they live, but this would have been a corruption of the truth. Rangers will not die because of the SPL or SFA but because their own misdeeds of the last 20 years are about to catch up with them.
This will be their final narrative. Be angry at those who administered and profited from the EBTs, no one else.

SPL sides face punishment if they fail to pay other member clubs
The league’s twelve sides must not have any outstanding cash due to teams by 31 December.

SPL clubs have agreed new sanctions against teams who fail to settle outstanding bills with other member clubs by the end of each calendar year.
At a general meeting, a new rule was introduced requiring clubs to ‘have no outstanding sums due to other SPL clubs as at 31 December in any year’.
Failure to do so would constitute a breach of SPL rules with punishments ranging from fines, points deductions to expulsion from the league.
Other rules to be introduced include from next season include, pitch protection rules will be introduced to minimise the risk of damage to pitches during pre-match warm-ups.
New media co-operation rules will also be put in place to ensure clubs co-operate with SPL broadcast partners.

In the days of the ole CQN, I used to complain about the length of time devoted to the [then theoretical] demise of the cash strapped scrofulous Hillbillies.
But now it’s actually coming to pass it’s taking much , much longer, like the death of the thousand cuts, or those poor souls who are on Death Row for 99 years.
Anyways, [one of hunners]low point for the bears yesterday was their rendition of ’10 German bombers in the air’, I didn’t think the ole rivet gun had that kind of range.
I don’t see any of the major benefactors of the EBTs such as Walter Smith, Ally McCoist et al doing the decent thing and returning the money to the club. It explains also why they are not critical of Murray as he increased their net pay by 40% to the detriment of the club in the long term.
It also explains why Walter and Ally are blaming other clubs , SFA , SPL to divert attention away fro David Murray and ultimately themselves.
Even guys like Sandy Jardine and Campbell Ogilvie are embarrassed that they were on the tax free scheme even at a much reduced level to Walter and Ally.
It’s best rangers die a natural death without the opportunity of the Hun hordes to blame SFA, SPL, Club Chairman etc. Only then will they see it was David Murray who was the architect of their downfall and all those who benefitted walked away and let their club die.
If rangers are not liquidated by 7th May, I suspect it may be another extension. It is clear now no one wants to deliver the final blow. It’s almost surreal the manner the whole episode is being played out.
Day by day survival of the mighty gers is fine with me.
