As predicted, things got worse

568

On Friday, after the Sparta debacle, I predicted, “There is worse to come”, it did not take long.  Losing at home by two goals to Ross County is worse than losing by three goals away to Sparta Prague.  If you were surprised, you have not been paying attention, Ross County were a punter’s dream.  Celtic are dysfunctional, vulnerable to anyone prepared to put their bodies in the way and take their chance at corner kicks.

The biggest concern I have is the message the players get from persistently overhauling roles and tactics; going from four at the back, to three, to four and back to three.  Add to this how Christie and Elyounoussi play a variety of roles: wide, middle, off the striker, and we shuffle between one and two up front.

If you are a player, you interpret this as, “We have no faith in our plan and we don’t know what to do about it.”  At least in this respect, the manager, players, you and me all believe the same thing.

When will it end?  Soon, I hope.  St Johnstone visit in six days and they are more potent than Ross County.

Reports of missiles being thrown at our players outside Celtic Park yesterday evening beggars belief.  Across the world, on a variety of issues, you see anger whipped up in online echo chambers.  This has consequences: some bring that anger into their personal interactions, some gather to demonstrate.

A smaller percentage of them have no boundaries.  Fuelled by the echo chamber and the crowd around them, they resort to violent acts, which Mr Angry behind his keyboard can condemn.  The violence is a consequence of entitled anger and together they make it more difficult to resolve the situation.  Imagine how you would react if you were a player?

A football team has come off the rails after winning a record 11 consecutive domestic trophies.  For a club that has known so many hard times, it was a pitiful bookend to this historic period.

Granted it was the DR….but other papers are picking it up and with Milan only two days away, it’s looking increasingly likely Neil Lennon will be in the dugout.

An awesome, profound, thought-provoking and humbling post! 😊

My thoughts and prayers 🙏 go out to your Son, his Brother, his Mother and your good self. 😊 I pray and hope that your Son will recover quickly. 😊

Thanks too for reminding all of us on here that, despite our emotional investment in all things Celtic, there are some things in life, like health and family, that are WAY MORE IMPORTANT! This is one of the (be)attitudes that make us, especially in times of trouble, way more than a Club (or PLC)!

WE ARE FAMILY! (Warts, Blacksheep and all! 😊)

The problem is that we never know what the board are thinking, they can go down the cheap route which is the norm, or they can pull a rabbit out like MON and BR which were both exciting appointments at the time. Unfortunately I don’t see a rabbit

  6. If he goes (I know, I know) there will be a rabbit. I feel confident in that.

That said, the world beating, all conquering team over at Sevco that have won the square route of diddly squat (not Slippy but he’ll be the tremendous new ‘manager’) will be gone next season to a 4th rate team doon sooth.

Apologies, I wasn’t saying that the source wasn’t genuine, far from it. I was trying to make the point that Celtic use more than one type of “source”.

It does not surprise me at all Lenny may be in the “hotseat” in Milan…

If he wasn’t, the Board would have identified and appointed his replacement they’ve had months to do it. They would have taken the pressure off the ghuy and given him the severence he deserved.

Guess he has to keep sucking it up…

    God Bless Neil Lennon!!

We can forget Milan, Sunday is what is important, we need the bounce from then, the status quo is not an option, if it is then we have given up, that would be unforgivable

Unfortunately DD only sees as far as the UK and Ireland for any potential Managers

So we can forget any exotic names

For such a hard nosed operator in a (so called) well run business, he should have been looking at potential managers after Cluj last season, for someone who cares so much about money, he has let upwards of £50 million of Champions league money slip through his fingers over the past 18 months.

“Because Dan Petrescu has achieved a lot more in the last ten years than WGS and O’Neill combined – winning domestic trophies and punching above his weight in Europe. I’m pretty sure he didn’t do that just by shouting at officials. ”

Looking at his managerial record, I am seeing

He won the Romanian league in 2009 with a team that went bust 2 years later.

He won the Russian First Division (that’s League Two or Championship in our terms)

He finished in 2nd place in Romania in 2015

He won the Chinese Super Cup in 2015

He has won the last 3 Romanian top division titles with Cluj

Forgive me, I think that is not particularly outstanding.

Wiki reckons he has just announced a “mutual” termination of his contract wiht Cluj, after a series of poor performanceds in the domestic league- 3rd place and Europa League (one win in 4 matches- scored 3, conceded 8).

Probably an edit by a trolling Tim

I note he was Romanian coach of the year in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Can we not get someone who has won more recently- a bit less dinosaur-y

  14. I think it is too simplistic to say the anger is based on a sense of entitlement and that Celtic have “come off the rails”. Football now has in the mix a strong element of product and consumers. The consumers feel the product being sold to them is not what it should be and neither is the after sales service. Everyone seems to be doing fine except for the consumers. If you go to a shop with a faulty product most decent shops will treat you well and explain what was wrong with the product, offer a refund or a different product. In football you get only lies and obfuscation and the consumers are only willing to take so much. I don’t condone violence but I understand the anger.

To say a team has “come of the rail” sounds like it was no one’s fault, an accident, fate. But people (fans especially have been pointing out the inevitable ages – the poor signings, the lack of tactics, the decline in fitness and motivation, the playing of players out of position, the not playing of players who need game time, the refusal not to play players who are underperforming, the focus on the Celtic connection for coaches and manager rather than the best available. SO let’s talk beyond platitudes. The manager, the board and the players will never do this, but the fans can. If no one listens the anger only gets intensified.

  15. Reading some posts and thought, there is the name to join CQN with, John Collins.

I’ve been a reader of the blog now and again, and was curious to read the good old folk of CQN, and their thought’s on current events, very interesting. I saw the name, John Collins, on these pages and it may not be a popular name with CQN posters of today, but during the dark days of the 1990’s I thought that, John Collins, was a bright light that shone through the dark gloom of those insufferable days, and nights. I recall that Wim was wanting to bring both, John Collins, and Pierre Van H, back to us, but Fergus rebutted these suggestions by Wim, and that left a bad feeling as to what was more important, the strengthening of the team on the pitch, or Fergus’s personal rejection of these two players, being managed by a proven manager, who’d just won a double trophy haul for us, including stopping the hun 10 in a row. Sadly it wasn’t to be, and once again, Fergus had made a disastrous intervention on the football side of the club, the outcome of these interventions, was that Advocate won the next 5 trophies in a row. John Collins was assistant to, RD, and he looked fitter than some of the Celtic players. I felt that there have been witch hunts aimed at John Collins, when Fergus sacked Luigi, then agitated Tommy Burns to sell John Collins, our only saleable asset at that time, but John Collins, proved that he was bigger than both, Tommy, and Fergus, by refusing to bow to oppression, both managerial, and from the club owner, agitating for John Collins of Celtic, to become, John Collins of, Derby County, or Middlesbrough. Why would John Collins want to play for these clubs? It was hardly John Collins fault, that Celtic had little money left since the McCann takeover. I’d say that had something to do with McCann’s misleading of his, rebel consortium investor’s as they vacated the premises, one after another. So for me, John Collins, would’ve been Celtic manager some time ago, given all his playing experience, and his spell at Hibs, where shamefully, Hibs hierarchy sided with the clique of witch hunters in Hibs dressing room, and sadly, some of the witch hunter clique, found their way into Celtic’s dressing room. Witch hunters shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near Celtic Park. I used to read supporters posting on here, taking the side of the odious Kris Commons, against John Collins, that had me thinking, what have our supporters become, when they can’t see what’s in front of their eyes. Now these supporters are ‘just’ starting to wake up to our boards under the table, board game, it might now be too late because you have already given them your money, hopefully not.

    God bless the great CQN.

  17. A warm welcome John Collins.

A fine moniker, a talented player who played over 200 games for us.

On the pitch a class act. .

Great debut post. It’s impossible to be a hun with that moniker.

But what clique do you favour. ? A clique of ” witch hunters” is a new one. One for the sorting hat me thinks.

It’s not an insurmountable lead that sevco have as long as we have a new management team at the helm which can organise and drill our team properly.

I spoke to Big Jimmy yesterday and he asks that no one goes into self exile on his behalf, he does thank everyone for their support though.

  21. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 12:23 AM

I never said Petrescu was outstanding. I said he’d achieved a lot more than MON and WGS in the last ten years. Winning the league with a team that went bust after? Sounds quite impressive and suggests he can win with clubs struggling off the field. You knock him for “only winning” the Russian second tier but remind me again how WGS and MON (recently) did at that level.

He won the league last year which is as recent as it gets and despite a much smaller budget has actually overachieved in Europe while we’ve chronically underachieved.

Again, I’ll make it clear that he’s not an elite manager (we won’t attract or afford an elite manager) but he’s clearly far better than what we have, far better than WGS or MON and I have a scary feeling he’s better than what we might end up getting.

  22. So I’ve woken up this morning to read that Desmond has kept a manager in the job who has clearly lost it and is overseeing our season crumbling because he wants to “spite” sections of the support.

This can’t be true. It’s not the way grown adults behave let alone those who run a major football club.

I’m hoping that Lennon is still in the job while they sort out severance pay and announce the new man for St Johnstone.

  23. Lots of rumours and wind-ups about new managers. I think Neil will continue until our lingering capitulation is complete. If the fracas on Sunday night really results in the board digging their heels in, it’s quite pathetic. I feel really sorry for Neil Lennon but it’s gone on far too long and he lost me starging with his comments after ferencvaros. I’m not obsessed by ten in a row and would be happy with a long term appointment now. I think when it does happen it’ll be a short term placement to see out the season and by then we’ll have gifted Gerrard another trophy.

It’s ridiculous that he was red carded for responding to the deliberate and targeted goading he was subjected to by a couple of creeps.

  25. The complete lack of vision from DD and PL is a shock but not a surprise.

DD is back to fighting the support after 15 years of keeping it under wraps.

PL is doing what he does best — suiting himself and to hell with the club / support.

They are playing double or quits with the emotions of the support.

    This will not end well.

If they had more brains than ego this would be simple.

Give NL a big badge and tell him to do the media stuff.

Bring in a new “coach” with two or three quality assistants and let them loose on L-Town.

Give JK and GS a new set of responsibilities — watching paint dry? — and see how it would all work out.

  26. So if the media is to be believed

DD & PL dig a bigger hole for them to dip their heads into the sand

If Neil is being kept in his role, can you please provide him with a drastically improved coaching set up, to support his vision

And let’s hope the board are working on a comprehensive and forward thinking future plan and strategy for the club
