My old memory recollects that the Penarol game was the first after the building of the new main stand was finished.

I’ve just given away almost all my programmes from the 60’s and 70’s (including a Lisbon programme). The one I held on to was the Celtic-Real Madrid game, which was the second game I was ever taken to. I’ve also got a menu from the post-game reception, signed by both sets of players, couldn’t bear to part with that.

When we look back at some of the “exhibition” games we’ve played,we’ve got quite a fair record. The South American teams coming over,the Di Stefanio testimonial,aw Ffs any number of testimonials,the one-off trophies.
Even during the years of famine we still attracted big names and big occasions.
You never know,maybe football people appreciated us back then. Sadly it seems that there are few football people in charge of football now.

What is the perception ?
You do understand that is more important than the reality , I take it.
Celtic supporters support the Palestinians.
That is the perception.
As we know , the Palestinians are in conflict with the Israelis.
Therefore the supporters of Celtic Football Club are seen to have taken a side .
If I were a Jew , that would alienate me from Celtic.
As Tims , we have been subjected to discrimination based on ( our perceived ) religion .
I bet you that is the way Jewish people now perceive Celtic.

We played Nacional in Sept 71 to mark the opening of the new main stand. The Uruguyan team had won the South American Cup ( sorry I do not know its official title)and I think went onto win the Intercontintal that year too. In their number was a forward, Cubilla, who had scored against Brazil in the World Cup semi final a year earlier. We won 3-0 and I still have the ticket stub.
I think we played Penarol two years later – when the stand had already had to be revamped- and again in 76. I was not at the 73 game but was there in 76. We won that one 3-0 I think

There are more than enough people of the Jewish faith who have voiced loud and long their opposition to current Israeli government policies.

I would imagine he has already done that with years playing at a high level including a big move to England.
I know we can never get enough £ $’s but I would hope he will decide to stay and sign an improved contract.
