Dangerous teams with nothing to lose

482

We lost at Ibrox in January to a team that did not record a single attempt on target, not even at the own-goal we conceded.  We lost there again this month having missed a penalty and even better chances, while assisting the effort with another own-goal.  Frankly, Newco must be wondering how poorly they need to play against us to lose a game.  Nothing I saw from the home team in either of our recent defeats there justified fear of them.

If the old adage ’beware the straw man’ holds true, Celtic will deliver.  The straw man has nothing to lose or fear.  What have Celtic got to lose heading to Ibrox on Sunday?  This should be the most relaxed Celtic team to head there in Newco’s 9-year history.

The dubious motivation, to stop Newco’s unbeaten run in the league, feels a bit beneath us, but still…..

Excellent. I bet you won’t mind if I steal that joke.

  4. lets all do the huddle on

man city had 72 percent possession in that first half with 0 shots on target to palace’s 2

this possession football pish is overrated

thankfully our recent managers have built teams that arent capable of doing it against anyone but the pishiest of opponents

  5. Many on here quite rightly ‘flag up’ sectarianism aka religious intolerance, & racial intolerance. Why is it then that some of the same people are quite happy to support & practice political intolerance?

There is a ganging-up and a mob response to certain posters. I have no problem with someone disagreeing with my views and will always read and respond to their opposing view, if presented in a reasonable way. However the vast majority is invective and as such I ignore it.

To practice political intolerance whilst highlighting racial & religious intolerance is hypocrisy.

Genuine reply – political preference is not a protected characteristic under the equality act 2010.

  8. Watched the Gogglebox version of our centenary final last night, as put out on Sportscene.

I think I got very drunk after that match- I managed to forget Joe Miller’s early sitter and forgot the amunt of driving play wee Joe delivered trying to make up for that early miss.

Frank MacAvennie made a good case for cocaine being a performance enhancing drug.

And, without intending any poiticcal point, one of the Gogglebox viewers was wee Janey Godley, an SNP supporter who outed herself as a Rangers* fan who, get this, wants Celtic to win anytime they are not playing Rangers*

  12. Being Bank Holiday on Monday ,Celtic Supporters won’t hear if Eddie Howe is the new manager of Celtic until Tuesday,Listening earlier to Clinton Morrison on Sky Sports I’m sure he was mentioning Eddie Howe would be a good for Spurs,I’m waiting on the other 3 pundits saying he is going to Celtic but no mention,so as ever we Celtic Supporters still in the dark.

  13. Can’t wait for my second as well and for the Celtic and Irish club to open to get a good blether about Celtic.

‘In all my dealings with JOBO, I found him to be one of the most accommoding, courteous and helpful persons on the blog.’

As I recall, he, being a courteous chap, said he was leaving and why.

    Is my recollection correct?

  15. I would be very surprised if Spurs approach Eddie Howe.

A poster mentioned a few days ago that it would be a coup for us to get him………..not in my mind i think it would be a honour for him to be offered the Celtic job.

Still think it could be Clarke or Keane.

    Ernie,

He did say he was leaving. I’ll be diplomatic and say I can’t remember why.

    I hope he reconsiders.

My recollection (which might be wrong) is that the reason he gave is not at odds with what has been suggested it was.

He didn’t strike me as the petulant type so I found it a little surprising that he left for the reason he gave.

    Still, cults eh?

  18. Over the months there has been a lot of negativity, obviously. But, the one thing I cannot get my head round is why so many have it in for Mr Christie. In my view, he is a natural footballer with oodles of talent. Sure he makes mistakes, don’t we all now and again??

If , as rumoured, he is only on 8 grand a week, while some dumplings are on up 5 times that, ask your yourself this question. Would you not be wanting to better yourself and be properly rewarded. No one can tell me he does not try.

Roddie the Proddie (cue howls of outrage from the usual subjects) on Ulster radio saying the delay with Howe is him insisting on having his own backroom staff.

Which might be true, or might not.

Surely Celtic wouldn’t expect him not to have his own staff?

  20. ERNIE LYNCH on 1ST MAY 2021 3:24 PM

It would be folly of the club to lose out on a candidate by not letting them pick their own staff. For that reason I do not believe these stories not to be accurate.

  21. If you refuse the jag and then get covid will you be looking for treatment from the NHS or your private health care provider to possibly save your life?

What if you got covid and passed it on to someone who subsequently died of it?

Have a happy life will ye.

  23. Go tell the Spartim on

Roddie MacDonald or that halfwit that lost his debenture seat at “the Victorian toilet block” Roddy Forsyth, if it’s the latter he’d be the last person to know, I’m surprised no one has alerted Radio 5 Live to this charlatan

Week old / third hand nonsense …

    … EH’s Helper / Pal as DOF — sorted.

Some arrangement has been cobbled together so that we have some football framework outside of EH and his pals / MC bloke in the frame from a few weeks ago might be crowbar’ed in somewhere to provide a PLC / high level perspective while EH’s pal deals with the first team squad here and now.

Issue a week ago seemed to be that Zimmer FC as his employer were holding out for some sort of pay off and we were not having it.

Usual health warning — money involved would not appear to be huge.

Easy way to explain the current lack of progress if there is a bit of willy waving between EH and PL / PL Mk2.

However previous made up scuttlebutt from this source has been pretty close to the mark — unfortunately.

I support those who have doubts about the efficacy of a vaccine which was developed against the clock and whose testing protocols were accellerated.

Nobody chose to do so because they wanted to harm the population. They did so because there was a genuine race to develop effective vaccines so that we did not have to rely on deaths, lockdown and herd immunity before getting back to life as near normal.

It was a tremendous achievement to get any sort of vaccine available within a time frame of less than 2 years but several research projects developed this. FOr that I rejoice.

They cannot all be fully effective and they can’t all be as good as each other and we cannot yet know that some horrific side effect will be more prevalent than predicted. So, there is something to fear, rationally.

The good news is that we are not seeing it yet. So many vaccinations and so few side effects and so little evidence of ineffectiveness.

In contrast, there is plenty of evidence of the harm of Covid and the emergence of long Covid.

I have had two jags of Astra Zeneca without any obvious side effect from the toxic mix they put in me (all vaccines contain potentially harmfu materials). I fully expect that I will have to have a booster dose at some indeterminate time in the future and there is a possibility that this might be an annual booster as the flu jag already is.

I support the right of anyone to refuse the jag but I ask them to recognise the negative effects if we do not reach a certain level of successful vaccination. The poorly researched and validated paper by Andrew Wakefield, that cause a reduction in uptake of MMR vaccination, led to the reappearance of mumps and measles when the MMR uptake droped to as low as 61% in the London area. This pattern was repeated all over the globe wherever the Wakefield paper had gained influence.

Though I support the right of opt out, there may well be a desire by people who have “opted in” to safeguard their own health by not having to mix, unknowingly, with those who may continue to be more high risk of being spreaders. That would be a dangerous path to go down but it has happened and the Wakefield anti-vaxxers have been subject to a lot of abuse because they were sen to be risking not just the health of their own families, and there are ethical limits to that as Jehova’s Witnesses have found, but to be posing raised risks to their local community.

Research into Covid and variants is ongoing and not yet concluded. That can be frightening but it is also a good thing. It means monitoring and preparedness and it should not be as long next time before we get on top of Covid.

The really frightening prospect is that it may not be Covid next time but something even more toxic and powerful for which we ahve no base vaccines from which to develop.

Take care of yourself and keep the cycling up. Older people have to be relatively fit to survive this.
