Deila and Hutter bedding into their new teams

1385

There are parallels between Salzburg and Celtic.  After an outstanding season Salzburg lost their coach, Roger Schmidt, in May to Bayer Leverkusen, appointing Adolf Hutter (commentators beware), who previously managed Austrian Bundesliga club Grodig and is largely unknown outside Austria.

Unlike Ronny Deila, Hutter has not tried to change Salzburg’s system, but the period of transformation has been blamed for Salzburg failing to overcome Malmo in the Champions League play-off round (Malmo taxed Juventus in Turin last night before two second half Tevez goals settled things).  New instructions, new training techniques and, in some cases, new personnel present challenges.

Ronny has had a few false starts but the return of Scott Brown at the weekend, the return to form of Kris Commons, who will surely start, and the addition of Scepovic, Tonev and Wakaso to the squad give reason for confidence.

Thanks to everyone who signed up to participate in the Great Scottish Run to raise funds for the Foundation in their work with poverty, equality, learning and health.  You can sign up here.

We’ve had over 3,000 responses so far to the survey on Celtic fans, who they are, where they came from, and what their views are.  The results will give an excellent insight into this time in our history.  If you’ve not had a chance to leave your mark yet, please do so here (only your first submission counts).

  1. Sandman,

Coupons that span over 2 days will be outlawed in an independent Scotland;)

    Jamesgang,

    You are pure menthol.

    But I Luvit:)

  2. Great to have six games in Europe to look forward to starting tomorrow night adding a bit of spice and variety to the season, indeed it’s difficult to imagine going through a full season without European football up to Christmas. So Salzburg are first on the list and a difficult task no doubt judging by their record winning six matches in this competition last season. Despite the Red Bulls dip in form recently this is going to be tough getting any kind of result here.

Celts played quite well on Saturday with the return of Broony and with a little bit of luck would have won more convincingly. Tonev impressed with his pace and Denayer continues to look good and Ronny made a big mistake by not playing him against the Maribor, would love if Celtic could keep the lad permanently, perhaps another Wanyama. Let’s hope Virgil does not have a snooze on the job as he did for the Dons goal. Scepovic looks the part and was just a fraction off for his disallowed score.

keeping my expectations in check but hoping the Serb will eventually deliver some goals in addition to the 28 he got last season in Spain.

In the 1920s and 1930s not many knew how the Nazis would turn out -many were attracted by that powerful combination of Nationalism and Socialism

Those are the same forces that the yes campaign -especially in the west of Scotland are peddling

If you don’t like that analysis you could tell me where I am wrong?

  4. Quite a few folk on here have been patiently waiting for the Hunz’ Tax Cases to reach the Courts in England where they may be scrutinised a bit less tolerantly than in the best wee country in the world.

If Scotland votes YES, will that mean that Zombie FC’s Tax Misdeeds only ever get assessed in Scottish Courts. If so, what sort of justice will prevail do we think?

“many were attracted by that powerful combination of Nationalism and Socialism”

You can reference that scenario to every single nationalist movement in the world.

I’m not a nationalist at all, and never have been, but your comparison is way wide of the mark.

  7. Guess who wrote this and where.

“The Scottish Government has always recognised that the terms of Scotland‟s

independent membership of the EU will be subject to negotiations with the

other Member States consistent with the relevant provisions of the EU

    Treaties.

    1. Introduction

1.1. Following a vote for independence in the 2014 referendum, the

Scottish Government would immediately enter into negotiations with the UK

Government and all other EU Member States to ensure that an independent

Scotland achieves a smooth and timely transition to independent membership

    of the EU.

1.2. In this paper, the Scottish Government sets out the case for Scotland‟s

independent membership of the EU, the benefits this can be expected to

bring, and the process by which independent EU membership can be

    achieved.”

  8. Jim Murphy just said people that where voting yes because they didn’t think yes would win have changed to no because it’s close ?

WTF is that ment to mean ??????

  11. My wee tuppence worth…

Voting Yes with as much clarity as is possible.

Short term it will be bumpy economy wise. The long term economic argument is guesswork both ways. That said, I feel confident that we as a nation have enough wherewithal to weather ups and downs from now onwards.

Social justice has a better chance under an independent Scotland’s watch. Same goes for NHS.

A whole new political landscape will emerge. SNP will die a natural death, skilled Scottish politicians will return from Westminster (Margaret Curran for first minister). There may even be a day where I vote for Scottish Tories.

Hope ROUK, English people in particular wouldn’t feel alienated, that’s the only drawback I see.

I’m sure no one would thank us if we turned the blog into a 20th century German history debate.

Shall we have a pint sometime? Discuss it then?

    Here’s your homework!

    1. Where is Salmond’s Mein Kampf account detailing clear principles of geographical expansion and racially based hatred?

    2. The rise of the nazis was predicated on the economic mayhem of the 20s and 30s and the fatally shallow roots of the Weimar Republic. By contrast, a new Scottish state would be created following a sustained period of consistent economic decline and a settled 300 year old political system. Discuss.

    3. Germany’s strategic position and inherent military and economic power allied to the megalomaniac ambitions of her leader threatened peace across Europe and the world. Scotland? Compare and contrast.

    4. Hitler’s adoption of a crude vegetarian diet led him to suffer chronic flatulence which fuelled his endemic fear of premature death through a stomach tumour. Question? Does Alex Salmond’s recent adoption of the 5:2 diet pose a similar threat to world peace?

There you go. That should keep you out of trouble for a bit.

    ;-)

    HH jamesgang

PS canavan and Murphy on BBC Scotland were horribly and equally embarrassing.

  13. Stein

Tell how it worked out then for places like Cuba, Vietnam?

Or would you prefer to live in the Irish Free State of the – 1920 until the 1960s?

Other movements like many in Eastern Europe like Ukraine harbour some pretty right wing people

    Care to name many others?

Not averse to a bit of rape n pillage – allegedly.

By the time they appeared the Huns, Goths ,Ostrogoths and Visigoths had been mostly, eh, humped.

The Dark Ages in Europe was… dark.

It all made Ms gm laugh which is the main thing :)

  18. Goodness me, supposed Celtic fans planning to vote Yes and put in absolute power the summit-calling bigots who introduced the OB act and persecuted our young supporters horribly with random arrests and dawn raids for singing the same tunes as rang around Anfield last night?

    Home now found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Auldheid:

re your post in response to my EU membership one.

thanks for the response – I acknowledge that a full set of accounts (to coin a Sevco term) have to be produced, metaphorically speaking, which is why I said that I believe a deal will be done.

The Scotland situation is different from other states looking to join, due to the fact that we (albeit in a different guise) are already a member, and our citizens are safely citizens of the EU already under the Lisbon treaty. (a tough thing to remove under EU law).

This gives the EU a clear get-out clause, and the ability to cut a deal if they so wish to. I personally feel that they would do this – as the general consensus across Europe is that the EU is supporting too many nations already, and I personally don’t think they would want to lose one of their fiscally stronger states.

However – if Barrosso does get his way, and we have to bide our time, then we will just sit in the EEA, nail down any bilateral agreements that we need to, and our rights of travel/work etc will be unchanged.

Please bear in mind, that Scotland is looking at at least a 3 year exit route from the UK anyway, and can put the wheels in motion for EU membership from day 1. The transition period will probably leave us in the UK for more than 3 years (4 years?) – by which time full EU membership may well be attainable immediately.

For me, and I’m being honest here – the ‘EU will reject you’ message is utter scaremongering, and really far removed from reality. It is due to this sort of misinformation that I am staunchly against remaining under the union flag, and equally against being run by the people in westminster.

One chance. Let’s make sure we grab it.

The United States of America and Israel are extreme right wing countries as well if you are looking for further examples.

There are extreme nationalists everywhere. In virtually all instances they are in the minority

Take Scotland. Are there Scottish extremists who support the SNP? I’d say there are bound to be some, but there is little evidence of it in modern multicultural Scotland.

Are there British extremists who wrap themselves in the Union Flag and are voting No?

Definitely, and there is plenty of evidence of it in modern multicultural Scotland.

Most of them turn up at Ibrox every other week singing nonsense about the Irish for a start.

So what is you point, that Scotland could go the same way as Germany in the 1930s?

    That is a desperate claim.
