Extra week training in July has huge impact

2173

I was concerned about a trip to Estonia after hearing Hearts struggle in their home leg against Estonian opponents last week, so news that Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps beat Flora Tallinn was welcome, although the concern was tempered as news arrived that Hearts were three goals up in the away leg.

The lesson here is that in July, one more week’s training has a huge impact on performance.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with how training has progressed thus far, but it’s only when players put multiple 90 minutes under their belts that they are ready for competitive action. There’s not necessarily a great deal of work to do to overcome Red Imps (no offence intended), but qualifiers come thick and fast thereafter. Despite beating Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana yesterday, I expect Celtic will be more motivated for Saturday’s game against Maribor.

It gets serious from now onwards.

6 bells on a Friday for an update seems a strange time, although with a Q@A at 7 I can see the merits in this.

Glad I’m working tomorrow or I would have been in the boozers and missed it.

Still with Only 15 mins to digest JF’S thoughts maybe miss the start of the Q@A. :-)

  8. I think it’s very sad and embarrassing to go into sites like NewsNow and read headlines about Celtic supporters getting excited about rumours of players leaving the club, the latest being James Forrest.

What is it about the Celtic support that we get so concerned with clamouring for players to be axed and shown the exit door? Most club fans are more interested in new signings.

Earlier in the week it was Efe’s rumoured departure that was being openly celebrated, with even Paul67 putting the boot in.

There is nothing wrong with supporters having very low opinions of players. That is their right. But openly celebrating a player’s possible departure, for all our detractors to see, leaves a very bad taste in the mouth.

Whatever your opinion of a Celtic player, he is human and has feelings and I am sure they get wind of these “celebrations” and I dread to think how it makes them feel.

What is more, if I was an English or French footballer being courted by Celtic, maybe I’d think twice about playing for supporters who can be so cruel and unthinking.

    I just don’t get it.

    Agreed. Great idea!

Only a matter of time before the dregs catch on to it tho & start crowd funding for the purpose of funding their their drug & alcohol fuelled weekend orgies.

    Or worse…….Keeping their club afloat.

#BREAKING My understanding is that we will finally receive confirmation from UEFA that Rangers are a new club. MORE SOON.

I did not claim to prove any hypothesis.

And my opinion was not based on one game.

The fact that Germany had to rely on penalties against Italy despite vastly better possession stats shaped my opinion.

I was working with a German friend yesterday and voiced my opinion to her that Low’s team lacked potency.

More to do with coaching style than personnel.

As i have said may times about Guardiola he took over a champions league winning team in Bayern

that won with an modern attacking style and turned them into pretty but not effective European competitors.

His system worked but eventually others work out ways to nullify and unless you can adapt it becomes impotent. He in three years at Bayern never adapted in Europe and so failed.

In the German league his vast resources over rest of the league helped him prevail.

What about the feelings of the paying Celtic support who turn up at games to see players in a Celtic jersey plainly not trying and worse of all for me, jumping out of tackles!

our squad size needs trimmed, end of story.

it is completely unmanageable in its current state

but i wont actively celebrate any individual player leaving, though i might comment on it being a good deal or not for the player and the club

  17. I’m seeing James Forrest has had an advanced viewing on the res12 issue that’s coming out at 6pm, question? Have the rest of the shareholders had the same curtesy? Assuming James is a shareholder, and used those said shares for res 12? Just asking, so don’t go rangers trust on me.

A timely reminder and caution against the quick use of the keyboard. I admit i have sought release from inept performances by posting my frustrations, especially about management. On the other hand, how else should one express concerns?

I guess the solution is to try to steer a middle path where we critique performance and not the person…….difficult to do, tho’

I can think of players whom I’ll be delighted to see leave the club. But I draw the line at going online and celebrating news of their imminent, or rumoured transfer.

I’m more interested in who is coming in.

See this “I pay my money” nonsense? It is thrown up every time someone questions the actions of Celtic supporters.

If you are happy publicly celebrating the demise of a Celtic player, then that’s your problem.

I see the point you are making. I would like to point something out to you tho; some players at our club just ain’t Celtic players & I’m not referring players like Efe who I considering garbage in terms of ability as Efe & others like him give their all for the badge. I am talking of the Johansens, the forests, the Commons & the Mulgrews who put their own petonal interests before the team.
