Jenz parallels with Jota

279

At 23, German central defender Moritz Jenz emerged from the Fulham youth setup two years ago.  A season in Switzerland with Lausanne, then one in France with Lorient, 45 games in total, is apparently enough to convince Celtic to move for the player.

Interestingly, before leaving London, he was in the same Fulham youth team as Matt O’Riley.  It seems likely that much of our scouting of the player took place before he left England.

Last season was a start-stop period for Moritz.  He kept his place in the team until injury kept him out for six weeks until December.  Thereafter he was as often on the bench as the starting line-up, as Lorient struggled to avoid relegation.

The parallels with Jota are also interesting.  Moritz is one month younger than the Portuguese, who also drifted between starting line-up and bench before arriving at Celtic, as his previous club struggled near the bottom of the league.

St stivs …thanks for your advice mate …I have listened to what you said etc …like most Celtic fans on here I come from a very mixed background and despise bigotry in all its forms including the subtle stuff…think you are missing the point in your rush to defend Billy’s maw …we were talking about probability in a Scottish context and like the boy Reid …Billy won’t be seeing if the jersey fits due to similar family influences …sad but true ..,,anyway on a light hearted note I would thoroughly recommend re watching the England/Italy penalties followed by the Rangers/eintracht penalties ..pure dead brilliant ..especially with a beer in this heat

Good to see you. Artur is one of the biggest and most loved characters ever to have won the hoops (or the yellow jersey in his case) which really is saying something. Good luck with your speech and Hail!Hail!

The only evidence we have that our defence has or hasn’t improved is very unreliable evidence.

Except that the group of players involved in every game this season will be better at defending than the ones last, which suggests improvement.

It wont be possible to make a completely like-for-like comparison, seeing as the teams we face will be much better. It is possible to make a comparison which takes into account the quality of the opposition, but in this particular`r argument it wont happen.

out on a limb here, but this is what i am thinking, lots of players in a scottish sense, dont come to celtic because they dont want to wait for first team opportunities at celtic, they cant get a promise of first team involvement.

Hickey an example, and at the other end of the spectrum McGinn.

I personally doubt that young players turn down celtic cos their mum hates us.

that would be a stupid rationale.

same for gilmour, if i was an advisor i would actually say, aye leave chelsea, but stay in english football for the easy fortunes.

trust me if he goes back there and he doesnt perfomr like messi, he will be next target for the boo boys

Northern Irish actor Charlie Lawson has confirmed he’s under investigation by the Environmental Agency due to his involvement in lighting a bonfire on the Twelfth of July.

Mr Lawson, famous for his role as Jim MacDonald in Coronation Street, took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to announce his agents in both London and Northern Ireland have been contacted by the agency, alongside The Irish News who first reported on the actor was facing a probe.

  14. Z,

Great to see you posting. Your countryman, Artur Boruc, was a fine goalkeeper, who faced down the bigotry in Scotland he was subjected to simply because of his religion. He won’t be forgotten by the Celtic support.

  15. would be good to get another Spanish speaking player to help Bernabei

We have good cultural connections throughout the team – Japanese, Jenz & Matt, Ozzies, Scots etc.. bring in the Argentine midfielder and we have a nice balance.

These wee things make a difference.

Good post, cogently argued. And I really hope you are right!

2 last points. It is the responsibility of the management of each team to get their teams settled and prepared prior to the competition. You are correct that in many cases we did not have a settled team, but that reflects poorly on our planning. The Lawwell years were disastrous in that regard, and it appears we have improved our performance there.

Secondly, my recollection of our European play in recent years includes frequent and needless loss of possession, immediately followed by our opponents surging through a completely shapeless and open midfield towards our goal. I really hope we are addressing that, as even Gardiola and Klopp have acknowledged that team shape without the ball is critical.
