Jim Goodwin’s proper football team

354

In their last four outings, St Mirren won 1-5 at Tannadice, 1-2 at Celtic Park and beat Kilmarnock 2-0.  Their only points dropped was a 1-2 home defeat to Hibs after going down to 10 men early in the game.  You will not need to be reminded how Celtic teams in better form have struggled at St Mirren Park against home teams in significantly poorer form.  Or that St Mirren are the only Scottish club to beat Newco this season.

Jim Goodwin has built a proper football team* that will take points off anyone who arrives ill prepared for the task.  I find the odds, which favour a Celtic win, a tad ambitious.

*St Mirren baiting will resume when appropriate.

Saint Stivs, you raise some good points.

I hope in time I will remember NL for that night in Nov 2012 when we beat Barca.

Time will tell, everything a bit raw for me at the moment. Maybe passage of time will change that.

Frank Terry, Celtic40Me – yes there might be more to the story to come in years ahead on Sevco’s financial doping. Their financial loses past 4-5 seasons do get conveniently overlooked by MSM and most of our support too, of which I can be guilty.

SFTB – I’m bemused by your comment ‘that your zombie pals have’. Note to myself to scroll on by next time.

  2. Frankterry..

Will remember that one when the usual suspects in my boozer start coming out with the 55 shite when they open..

I’ll always remind them who the celtic manager was when their team died….

  6. BSR- also forced to leave the ‘Directors Box’ at Swinecastle, after being abused and pelted with coins.

  7. Bada Bing

    Thanks!

I can see that going either way. Old school ‘me’ says dive; modern football says ‘ penalty’ no debate so he should get off

  8. APOLOGIES-BREAKING! Albian Ajeti in the clear as Celtic star’s diving ban overturned at SFA hearing thanks to ‘not proven’ verdict

  9. GGH

Definitely contact on Boerigter – I was right behind the goal about 10 yds from it.

Ajeti cleared (STV) . That’s probably why Cole got off . The panel were so scunnered at having to clear Ajeti .

  11. ERNIE LYNCH

Jack McLean, “The Urban Voltaire”, brought back some nice memories there!

  12. Bournesouprecipe……………Interesting stats on Lenny’s impressive achievements as a player and manager. The litany of violence and abuse the man has suffered short of being fatal is absolutely shocking.

  13. I think once this season is over and we can all take a step back Neil will be remembered for what he was a True Celtic Legend, never afraid to be at the FRONT of the bus! Sure, I’ll be disappointed still at the hurt of not doing the 10, but the more the years go by, the memories of the last 9/10 years will just keep getting better and better, por cierto.

    BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 9TH FEBRUARY 2021 4:56 PM

Credit where it is due and there are many fine achievements owing to NL in your post.

I thought it a question worth raising all the same. A lot of fans I engage with really are in a mixed place re: NL’s ultimate legacy and how he will be viewed.

Time will tell I suppose. As one poster said, Celtic community are of the forgiving and hold their own affectionately. I can’t argue with that even if it takes some time for the wounds of this season to heal.

  15. I agree that Frank Lampard is not of sufficient stature to manage Celtic.

Seemingly he is the elite bracket of 0.1% of the world’s most intelligent population according to Mensa.

He even got an A in Latin. Wow mega respect.

However if he’s that clever how did he not envisage the tick tac coming his way. Even the dugs in the street could see that coming ( Including Shane Duffy’s dug )

    HH to all.

  16. That Ajeti case had to be thrown out. The SFA would have been a laughing stock if a sanction against the Swiss international had gone through.

A midweek Celtic game on Sky Masterson is always something to look forward to particularly in these strange times. Revenge against Saint Mirren would be nice but the match looks like being snowbound, unfortunately.

Watched American eggball or SuperBowl at the weekend and that 43 yearold Tom Brady is some operator. His seventh time to lift the trophy. I see his great grandparents left Ireland on the famine ships for Boston like of course many of the Celtic diaspora.

May our Broony can still be growling and kicking ball for another few years.

So our Broony still has a bit of time left

  17. Bournesouprecipe @4.57pm

My only disagreement with that piece is in the description of “ debateably “ he faced the biggest and most sustained campaign of sectarian abuse etc, etc.

No debate in my book. Celtic players down the ages have been subjected to what ought to be properly described as anti Irish , anti Catholic , racist abuse. Neil Lennon was a lightening rod for those bigots and he stands out in Celtic history as being the most vilified.

For that reason alone I stand with that man.

  18. Someone asked earlier ( St Stivs?) if the Manx Bar in Townhead was a Celtic pub. I asked my brother and he said that although the majority of customers were Tims, it was not a Celtic pub per se.

  20. Ajeti and Cole both escape punishment. More “evening up”, except that only one of them had a case to answer.

  21. BHOY FROM THE BOYNE

The record books won’t alter even when 20 point gaping hole angst mellows.

We are all somewhere on the scale of new era at Celtic, I’m confident even NL is on it as well. He wasn’t a unanimous popular choice, first, never mind second time.

But then Wim Janssen was nearly Artur Jorge ( according to one tube ) MON was nearly Guus Hiddink, Tony Mowbray was nearly Owen Coyle, Ronny Deila was nearly Roy Keane, WGS was told to GTF.

None of them come close to Neil Lennon’s overall record, supporters have their favourites, but holding Neil Lennon personally responsible in the blame game and now mythical ten completely misses the Celtic ethos IMO.
