Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

1049

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen.

  1. Ok Bhoys so we have been fined by UEFA. It is over now as I do not believe we (The board) will appeal. Its time to move on and hope that we can put an end to the add ons. However those in our support that equate being fined for singing sectarian songs and being fined for singing a yet to be clarified ‘illicit’ / political song as being on the same level of shame need a reality check. We are not Der H*N we are still the best fans in the world and continue to be so regardless of some obscure UEFA ruling regarding the singing of political songs at football grounds.

My only concern is that this will be used by the Scots establishment to start a vendetta against our singing anything remotely link to Irish Nationalism – and I do include the Soldiers song. Expect UEFA to be inundated with complaints every time BOTOB is sung.

with regards to the fine today, i am confused and would like some sort of answers from Celtic or EUFA :

what is/are the songs that are deemed “illicit”?

how can a trial take place, without the plaintif being represented or knowing what they are being charged with?

can we appeal? if so will we appeal?

is this a one ( police ) man mission to target Celtic or are we going to see a level playing field for all?

I think I know the answer to the last one.

I would like to think, that if we do find out what the offending songs are, for the good of Celtic and also not to give them anything to go at, that we would stop singing them and sing the numerous other songs we have.

We are better than them. HH

  5. The silence from the Club is defeaning – or maybe my dismay is making me impatient.

Now this charge, whatever on earth it was for, will lend encourgagement to those here (and there are more than a few of them) who want what they view as “Irishness” stamped out of Scotland. Better not sing the Fields of Athenrye, that will be next, along with the Tricolour. After all, they did try to “ban” these not too long ago.

William Wallace was a terrorist in the eyes of Edward. Flower of Scotland is offensive to many in its support of rebellion – I’ve heard that opinion more than once from Scots living in England.

An illicit song then. The Match commander at the next Scotland v England rugby match will have to take some action methinks – shouldn’t be a problem seeing as he will have the backing of the new universal, one polis force in Scotland. Cannae wait for that by the way – more power to them, and more power to the SNP. Superb. They’ve shown they’re worthy so far.

I am already out.I wont set foot in another scotish football ground.I don’t sing any IRA songs but we are being attacked on every front now and we cannot win.Our board are weak in my opinion.I don’t even know what songs UEFA had a poroblem with.

    Bob.

  8. the long wait is over on

We can argue all we like about the rights or wrongs of the songs – personally I think they need left in history where they came from and where they belong – , about the rights and wrongs of the procedures involved in getting us in front of UEFA and all the rest of it but one fact is undeniable.

Any one with half a brain ought to have known this day was coming.

Those that sing the add-ons walked right into it. Unfortunately in doing so they have dragged the club and the rest of the fans along with them.

As Paul said they have sullied the club’s hard fought reputation , one officially recognised by UEFA who have never , IMO , had an axe to grind with us.

Weve now lost the right to claim the higher moral ground. If you want to do that you have to be whiter than white.

Shot ourselves in the foot big time with this. Were going to have this thrown back at us time and again.

    So easily avoidable.

“Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen”?

True but those who sang the add-ons are every bit as guilty – out of stupidity and naivete perhaps but still to blame.

  9. northbhoy ... \o/ on

    I am upset and annoyed.

I feel that my club has been criminalised and ridiculed by the SNP government and its police force. This government are making me feel disaffected, and to-day is yet another episode in a regular attempt by them to undermine me and people like me. The gullible will say that this was a decision by UEFA, but they were taken to that decision by this cowardly and niave government.

We will never be told what the illicict chanting is, the idea is to produce enough confusion and questions around what you did……..all you really need to know is that we are being treated woefully because it detracts from the real problem.

One is bad as the other the couthy neighbours will be crying, well we are not, Celtic is a fine and strong club and its time that Celtic FC strengthened every effort to distance us from the orcs and all they stand for.

    Celtic Football Club statement

By: Newsroom Staff on 12 Dec, 2011 17:43

UEFA have today announced a fine of 15,000 euros against Celtic for ´illicit´ chanting at the recent UEFA Europa League tie against Rennes at Celtic Park.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “We received notification of the fine this afternoon with no detail. The Club is currently considering its position.”

  11. the long wait is over @ 17:46

Should we sing Flower of Scotland then? – they’d be much happier with that and might even find us less offensive if we do so. Maybe need to change the words if play an English side though, and cut out the add-ons on that song?

Rule Brittania’s an interesting one. Offensive to the rest of Europe but also acceptable to sing at will and indeed play officially. Very odd all this.

  12. Club statement – “no detail” “consider position”.

Strange way for Uefa to operate.

  13. pedrocaravanachio67 on

although not the best performance on Saturday, what a masssive 3 points. The introduction of Scotty at half time seemed to up the tempo, he was getting the ball from back to front quicker than anyone was in the first half. The mini’s came to spoil, and were content to flood the midlfield and slow the game down…..until we scored and then they started to play at a quicker pace. Plaudits to all, but especially big Vic, FF, Sammy ( for showing the ref his job ) and Scotty for “fight”.

Is there some silent hooter that goes off with 10 minutes to go, telling people to leave the stadium? There must have been loads of fans that missed the excitement of the last 10 minutes…..stay to the end and support.

“If the information on sectarian crimes had been published rather than being destroyed on political orders, there would be no doubt in anyone’s mind the statistics would show Scotland is a dangerous place for Roman Catholics. The fear was if the figures got out, this would affect the SNP’s independence agenda and how the predominantly Catholic EU might view an independent Scotland asking for EU membership.”

At least seven murders in the West of Scotland this year, some of young men, others involving family members, all widely reported in the press and on television are thought to have been motivated in some way by anti-catholic hate however as yet not one news report or newspaper article has mentioned the fact Police officers investigating the crimes viewed the possibility each incident had an element of sectarianism to it.

  20. I think the ‘guilty’ verdict will require the minutest explanation, and if we don’t get it then the Celtic Board are failing to function.

As pointed out in Phil Mac’s article this morning, Celtic supporters went to a subsequent game after Rennes without knowing what “illicit” chanting there had been.

Celtic said they would cooperate, congratulated the support for their reputation, and said nothing to the fans, on the nature and specifics of the charge.

They had better be considering their position, and as countless posters have said before, during and after they better come up with some answers as to precisely why our reputation has been blackened.

  21. BelfastCityCelt on

In other shocking incidents, the desecration of Roman Catholic churches in Scotland has continued to rise, with a recent report on STV news regarding an incident of vandalism of St Leonard’s RC Church in East Kilbride which was so heavily sanitised, the incident as reported by the media took on a completely different view to the actual details of what is very much a sectarian crime, more accurately reported by Scots composer James MacMillan in the Telegraph, HERE.

  22. Lads we were stitched up big time but you learn from past mistake’s.

Remember lads if huns go into admin and they wan’t to form a newco it will be in our interest to show our board we will stand strong and oppose this.

The media have been tarnishing us in the same light as huns so watch them try to shout from the rooftops it’ll be in our best interest to save scottish football.

They have no chance after this..

  23. I don’t know what the LEGAL ramifications of this absurd judgement are. But, one thing we must do NOW is cut off any ties with them. No more O.. F… in any shape or form. The SNP and the Strathcyde Police have obviously decided that we are to be the scapegoats for their overarching ambition. They want their Establishment team to flourish at our expense. So, let them all flounder together.

  24. BelfastCityCelt on

Such a bigoted little mess that place “Scotland” really is.What makes it even worse than this little backwater,is the fact that these crimes against humanity are being covered up and denied.

  25. What a disappointing day. I’d hope the fine night make a few people stop and think what they have done to our club. I’ll be writing to demand the club take action against whoever was responsible.

  26. If it indeed the Celtic symphony we have been pulled up for, can someone explain to me how it can be illegal of “illicit” if it available to buy in places like HMV or iTunes? For example if enough of us Celtic fans bought it from iTunes, it would move up the download charts…

  27. celtic40me @ 18:08

Don’t think you need to worry about that, it’s a given.

It seems it’s much easier for the club to kick out a couple of heids rather than confront the meeja, politicians and heavy-handed polis who are all attacking us. Much easier for them to join the bullying establishment than stand up for any of our fellow supporters it seems. You wish will be granted.

The huns have been slavering on for a few years now to get us to this point. Endless poppyganda, driving out the milllitant support.

Their comming together culminating in this as a first pass. Will the huns now be happy at the perceived degree of equivalence?

So UEFA fined us £13,000 but gave no explanation as to why?

It is the Celtic boards duty to the support that they ask UEFA as to what specific ‘illicit chanting’ was committed

An appeal has to be submitted without any shadow of a doubt

  31. Lads look at the Nevin and McLean incident, rangers were shown in a bad light by UEFA so they had to even this up.

That cup final game was shown live to an audience in scotland and england so they knew what they were doing with this statement and the damage was done to show us in a bad light.

  32. What was the yardstick that Eddie Smith was using when he reported us to UEFA?

Will another Match Commander have a different view?

    What is illicit chanting?
