Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

1049

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen.

    Interesting point.

    Maybe it shouldn’t be described as political, but rather culturally observant (as in, taking note of some feelings in a particular community by observation of the graffitti on particular walls, in the locale of said community).

  2. Someone on KDS said SFA should get fined for Tartan army singing that sound of music nonsense.Now that is offensive!!

    Ooh aah up the Ra – is just about as political as it gets, in the eyes of many.

    There’s also, the not so small matter that there is cast iron doubt whether it was even sung at the game, reported.

    I contacted someone in the know in the Church . They’re not happy about:

    this criminalisation of Celtic fans after years of acquiescence to religious hate chants;

    the destruction of official records containing sectarian crime data;

    and they’re unhappy about gay marriage.

    I don’t know where they’re going to take this but I doubt that the SNP are going to get their endorsement next time round.

  5. Parkhead, i am sure i read somewhere that he is ex Strathclyde police who then went on to be security cheif at ipox. cannot remember his name.

  6. All, i think that we need to remind ourselves that we have, allegedly been found guilty of breaching UEFA regulations that cover the singing of political / illicit songs inside a football stadia. Not guilty of a hate related offense such as racism of sectarianism. Those that are wailing, gnashing their teeth and rending clothing should remember this – POLITICAL – not hatred

    ‘The Celtic board cannot – repeat CANNOT – give ANY clarification on the illicit chants until they receive such clarification from UEFA.

    Surely that CANNOT be that hard to understand??

    Those posters using this issue to have a go – AGAIN – at the board – simply bore me rigid.’

    The Celtic board should have details of the charge(s) we faced. These should specify which songs/chants were involved. Celtic could and should release this information. Why don’t they?

    Not sure if your being sarky mate but your totally right.

    For the record although the line is in the original song I like the up the Celts version better.

    If that’s what we’ve been done with I wouldn’t feel my politics had been compromised if I were to stop singing it at the footy (which I don’t do anyway)

    I also think we’re the victims of a major fit-up here!

  9. Carrigan,

    If so, he wouldn’t have needed prompting from Smith, although they might have worked out some sort collusion to take away any charge of bias coming from him. Sounds very very fishy, as if it was all prearranged.

  10. Can not really understand what all the fuss is about.

    Its been comming for a while. We have been asked to stop the childishness by our own club.

    No no, we have big brave warriors singing crap celebrating eh our history? No matter how the sane pleaded for you to stop you didn’t why because …eh …well were no huns and well they sing bad songs.

    Well done all you rebels. You have done a grand job. Home you are all proud of yourself?

    Me l am sick of the lot of you, if you can not or will not stop singing this rubbish do not follow my club, be gone and go now.

    I agree ‘Up the Ra’ is a political statement.

    What I mean is if you listen to the rest of the song it has absolutely nothing to do with Irish politics.

  14. Folks,

    Looking a wee bit of advice.

    One of the drivers in my work has just found out his 15 year old son has leukemia. Within 3 days of finding out, he was sent to hospital where he is to be confined to for the next 7 months.

    It means spending Xmas day in hospital too.

    Its also looking like the whole family are going to have to move back to Belfast after having moved out to Newcastle some years ago because thats where the hospital is and where he will have to go for regular check ups if all being well, he gets out after the 7 months.

    The young lad supports Man Utd and Id love to get him a signed Man Utd jersey that he can hang above his hospital bed.

    I dont know where to go – Im more than happy to do a whip around in work and pay for one from ebay, but again I havent a clue what to look for to get a genuine one. Prices on there seem to vary quite substantially.

    Does anyone have any experience of looking for signed jerseys?

    A Rooney jersey on the Man Utd website is £425 – way too much for a whip around among 10 odd members of staff.

    Any help appreciated.

    yep -they knew the charge and now they know found guilty

    seems they are taking time to reflect before they decide next step:-appeal or accept etyc.,

    Lurgan doesn’t like it -but there is a justifiable reason for some of the digs at the board right now.

    they are simply not communicating enough to Celtic fans

    It sounds like there was a plethora of cases for UEFA to work through. The delay in announcing the ruling was put down to this. Do the defendants have any input at this stage or is it more expedient for the judging panel to just go “Match Commander says there was misbehaviour. Fine fifty quid licence endorsed.” A significant majority, being in the wrong, take their licks and carry on. Might we only get to defend ourselves if we appeal? WishfulthinkingCFC

    Contact Man U.

    Most clubs will provide stuff if it’s for charitable fund raising, so I would imagine they would do so for something like this.

    We are led to believe that after a charge of illicit singing was made Celtic;

    A) Didn’t ask what ‘illicit’ singing specifically?

    B) Asked, and weren’t told?

    C) Were told, but didn’t tell the support?

    I’m in the option B) camp at the moment, because it seems, Celtic still don’t know either.

    Not a problem as Ernie has said most clubs will have a facility for dealing with such requests. As mentioned I think a letter from the hospital will add a lot of weight to your request.

    I wouldntt be too surprised if the board are quite happy with today’s outcome.

    The fact is “illicit” singing doesn’t suit the brand and is bad for business.
