Over 70 CQN’ers gathered in Aberdour, Fife, on Friday for our eighth annual charity golf day. As before, the day was hugely successful. Both those there on the day, and hundreds more who contributed beforehand, raised over £6,000 since we kicked off the summer’s fundraising activity in May.
This year LIvingston manager and former Celtic player, John Hughes, gave his time to entertain us with a mixture of great anecdotes and outrageous anecdotes. The big man spoke warmly of his time at Celtic, the joy of signing and working for Tommy Burns, that goal at Ibrox, and how he still benefits from his time learning from Tommy.
Many sincere thanks to Taggsy, BlantyreKev, Jonnybhoy, Barassiebhoy for organising an excellent event yet again. A special mention for Oldtim, for more than I am prepared to tell you, and to everyone who contributed to an excellent Celtic occasion.

A pommel horse walks into a parallel bar. The barman says ‘is this a gymnastics joke?’ The horse is on the floor and beams.

Woke this morning with a prawn cracker stuck to the side of my face.
I gave him that as payment :-)
Andy Murray – gold medalist. If that doesn’t give him the confidence to go on and win a major then nothing will

If PL had just paid the agent a few bob extra when we tried to sign Ramis, we probably wouldn’t be having the conversation about a CH.
It might even worked out for us in the long run as well, agents who are looked after in turn look after those who look after them :>)

As a consequence of my poor nursing skills she was happy to be rid of me yesterday!!
We in my opinion only need to sign two players a centre back and a striker if we progress in Europe we have enough quality as it is to win our wee diddy league.I also think that is how the sharp suited man sees it but he cant come out and say that in public. He also must be concerned about the lower crowds yesterday there were lots of empty seats and that in the day we raised the flag how many will turn up when we are 10 points ahead on a freezing Wednesday evening in November?we really have to be prudent to ensure our clubs long term future.H.H.
We have long commented on here about the ability of the club when faced with Euro teams with a significantly stronger budget. I have written many many words on here criticizing the club for failing to sign players , particularly in the Willo Flood window.
My criticisms were aimed at the board and the CEO , because the business benefit of investment was a) obvious and b) highly probable
However I have to commend the club and the board and the CEO for the way it has been run in the last 18 months. I fully agree with the decision , not to spend significant sums, at this stage of proceedings.
We needed players in recent years to drive home our challenge in the SPL and secure a guaranteed CL place. That challenge and the resultant reward is no longer there. We as a club, support and board alike , are perfectly entitled to think we should be able to see off HJK Helsinki with the resources we have and especially due to the disparity of resource between both clubs.
Any business should only employ a resource suitable for the challenge. Investing at a much greater level than should be necessary is a folly. Neil has at his disposal much better players and a much bigger squad than Helsinki. He is tasked to beat them, and that’s an entirely reasonable expectation.
Should the club make size and budget deliver the result expected, then at that point a review of signings and sales is appropriate. From a business perspective, we should be able to sell Ki and Kayal and win the SPL without splashing on replacements. In the current environment they should fetch in excess of £13 million.
We will need to replace them at some point, however Twardzik has to be given his chance.Given the excellent work of John Park and his team, I would expect eventual replacements to cost no more than £4 million . That’s our business model nowadays, and it is one which we should all support.
The key , the absolute key along with Parks ability to discover talent, is Neil’s ability to develop these players into a team. So far so good, however beating HJK Helsinki is critical to the development of the plan and the team.
When we eventually sell Victor and Ki and Kayal, we should remember that this is critical to our business plan. Not only do we need to profits from these sales to reinvest, we need to demonstrate to future Victors and Ki’s that Celtic represents a fantastic opportunity to play for an amazing club and the best gateway to eventually sign for a richer club in a bigger league.
Udinese are now an A list club for talented young players, because they offer that gateway . Ajax similarly, and they have the same cache as Celtic in offering an opportunity to play for a world class club along the way to real riches elsewhere.
Their performances in Europe are our benchmarks, not the spend addicted English or even the sensible but wealthy Germans. Udinese and Ajax eventually sell their best players for more than we ever have because they perform in Europe and against top clubs at home in Italy in Udinese’s case as well.
Win against Helsinki, and in the next round and we will secure our financial future for years to come. Fail and it’s sell at less than top $
No pressure Neil.
Barcabhoy. That is the most sensible post I have read on here in a long time well done fella.H.H.
