It’s been a fascinating day for Molde, who re-appointed former manager old Gunnar Solskjaer on a three year contract. The timing of this one is incredible, coming a few days after an international break, which would provide the perfect opportunity for the club to make changes and prepare for the challenges ahead.
After winning the league in 2014, their third Norwegian title in four years, Molde sit 7th with three games remaining. Recent form hasn’t been too bad. They have won each of their last two league games, scoring seven goals, and sit top of their Europa League group after drawing with Ajax. Interim boss, Erling Moe, had steadied the ship. You could argue he exceeded expectations.
Solskjaer won the first two of those titles, but his reputation faded in 2013, when an unknown young Stromdgodset coach stopped him winning three-in-a-row in 2013. He joined Cardiff City in January 2014 but could do nothing to arrest their slip into relegation and was sacked a month into their aimless Championship campaign.
He’s been carrying out various media and youth coaching roles since, waiting on the right job to come along. Molde have been looking for a permanent manager since parting company with Tor Ole Skullerud at the beginning of August. Solskjaer was reportedly their prime target back then but it looks like he’s held off until now, perhaps hoping for a gig in the well-heeled English game.
Apologies for the metaphor, but he dumped his girlfriend for a looker he knew from his student days, but who was way out of his league, so he soon found himself on the shelf. After spending months looking around he’s gone back to his old flame, who had let herself go but has got her act together in recent weeks.
I’m sure they’ll be very happy together. This is your time, Ronny. Beat them.

A wee update on the 21 year old Saudi Ali Mohammed al-Nimr who has sentenced to crucifixion and beheading.
According to the Foreign Office, they do not expect this sentence to be carried out now.
To be on the safe side though, here is the petition link again, which now stands at over 1.5 million names;

I like the idea of astro pitches but you never see a decent game on the surface
Have to say I was surprised to hear that Simonovic (sp) travelled but isn’t expected to play.
Blantyre Kev
I disagree.
The principles are what are supposed to be driving this.
I don’t want other folk to pay for my principles.
I’m surprised that others, acting on a principled base think that is OK.
It’s not the money it’s the principle that’s important.
Ps it’s not unworkable. It’s just budgeting.

Four men have been arrested after a fight involving football fans resulted in one man being injured.
Chairs were thrown outside Sinclair’s Oyster Bar in Exchange Square in Manchester city centre.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) tweeted the Polish football fans were held on suspicion of violent disorder.
A GMP spokesperson said the injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics for a head wound and the group of fans dispersed after officers arrived.
In a later tweet, the force said: “A fourth male was arrested after being found hiding in a restaurant near where the other three were detained.”
The trouble flared before Manchester City’s Champions League group match against Spanish side Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium, which kicked off at 19:45 BST.
Reports have suggested some of the people involved in the trouble were wearing the colours of Polish club Slask Wroclaw, whose fans have clashed with those of Sevilla recently.

I hate to say this, but there is not the remotest possibility of all workers at Celtic Park being paid the living wage, unless they are all represented by a major Trade Union. The living wage is based on a calculation of the needs of a household, not an individual, and is targeted at full-time employees. Now of course part-time workers are by law entitled to the same rates of pay as their full-time colleagues but employers can get around this in a number of ways, ways that can only be rejected by an employment tribunal, Blantyre Tim may have some experience in this regard. The minimum wage is age related;
£6.70 per hour adult; £5.30 18-20; £3.87 16-17 and £3.30 if you are a lowly apprentice.
To pay the living wage to 16-17 year olds, none of whom are are likely to be full-time workers would actually mean increasing their hourly rate to £7.85, and possibly more next month. If achieved would find more of those positions filled by adult workers. Even the best Trade Union would do well to negotiate a doubling of wage rates for a 16 year old. Chelsea have gained a living wage accreditation by paying directly employed staff over £9 per hour, I’m guessing that 16-17 year olds working the kiosks do not get paid that.
Ttr,
I can’t see that being far away.

I’d put money on all 4 EPL teams making the next stage.
The CL group stages are pretty drab these days.

Amazeballs that Efe is still being considered by anyone.
Don’t know what the guy has to do to be dropped.
Folks
Just a wee reminder that I am chasing sponsorship funds for the Celtic Charity Foundation Homeless campaign.
A wee note to perhaps make you think.
Shelter have a poster doing the internet rounds just now.
It reads: ” One child waking up homeless on Christmas morning is a tragedy – 80,000 of them is a disgrace!”
If you can do anything — anything at all — to help it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all those who have donated already. You know who you are …… and you are fantastic.

It’s a badge nothing more, same as IIP (are you gold or silver, look at me). It’s a pat on the back, and every one loves patting themselves on the back these days.
If you are low paid and get a few quid a week extra then it makes no difference when your rent, heating, shopping etc are going up by much more and that doesn’t look like stopping any time soon.
HamiltonTim preaching @@@h about the living wage.

Them stats are all well and good.
