Solskjaer back with old flame after over-shooting with looker

417

It’s been a fascinating day for Molde, who re-appointed former manager old Gunnar Solskjaer on a three year contract. The timing of this one is incredible, coming a few days after an international break, which would provide the perfect opportunity for the club to make changes and prepare for the challenges ahead.

After winning the league in 2014, their third Norwegian title in four years, Molde sit 7th with three games remaining. Recent form hasn’t been too bad. They have won each of their last two league games, scoring seven goals, and sit top of their Europa League group after drawing with Ajax. Interim boss, Erling Moe, had steadied the ship. You could argue he exceeded expectations.

Solskjaer won the first two of those titles, but his reputation faded in 2013, when an unknown young Stromdgodset coach stopped him winning three-in-a-row in 2013. He joined Cardiff City in January 2014 but could do nothing to arrest their slip into relegation and was sacked a month into their aimless Championship campaign.

He’s been carrying out various media and youth coaching roles since, waiting on the right job to come along. Molde have been looking for a permanent manager since parting company with Tor Ole Skullerud at the beginning of August. Solskjaer was reportedly their prime target back then but it looks like he’s held off until now, perhaps hoping for a gig in the well-heeled English game.

Apologies for the metaphor, but he dumped his girlfriend for a looker he knew from his student days, but who was way out of his league, so he soon found himself on the shelf. After spending months looking around he’s gone back to his old flame, who had let herself go but has got her act together in recent weeks.

I’m sure they’ll be very happy together. This is your time, Ronny. Beat them.

See they beat Dinamo Kiev, who drew 0-0 with Chelsea last night, 3-0 in Kiev last week.

So, Rudi, bit of hyperbole on the Sevco comparison maybe?

  2. Beatbhoy,

I’m not sure his comparison with sevco was meant as a negative ;)

  3. It hurts when you see Malmö winning against Shaktar.

It brings back memories of a late winner from Donati what 8 years ago?

That’s fairly neutral then! Unless they’ve got an inflatable stadium, of course.

Could come in handy for Sevco that, soon hopefully!

I’m off now, but it’s got nothing to do with anything inflatable!!

  5. Gg,

It would be about that neebs.

I actually remember more about the previous meeting with them.

My jammy mate had a fiver on the scorecast.

It was either 60’s or 66’s. I don’t think I even got a bovril off him. Lol

  7. So all thoughts turn to Molde.

I just looked at their stadium on the edge of the fjord.

we might see one of Izzy’s crosses land in the water.

From the little clip I saw of one of their previous games, I think they may be a wee bit suspect at crosses, set plays and free kicks.

This is a game that cries out for a dominant Centre forward challenging for crosses and corner kicks.

Will Ronny spring a surprise by fielding Ciftci and Griffiths?

    I doubt it.

I am sure Brown, Bitton and Johansen will set up strong protection in front of the back four and form the basis for a comfortable two goal win.

Maybe I should change to hope.

  8. Daniel Murphy has just created a record 6 home runs in successive play off games.

BUT more importantly the Mets lead the Cubs by the magical score of

    7-1

In the bottom of the 8th

  9. Read on the net somewhere that Molde turnover was about 10m pounds in 2013

Ours at same time was near 60m

    Should be an easy contest

But they are run as football club , we are badly run as corporate business

Excuses are running out for lawell

  10. And the Mets win 8-3 to complete the sweep over Chicago Cubs and become National League Champions.

They have a wee rest now before the World Series starts next Tuesday.

Kansas City, 3-2, and the Blue Jays will play Thursday and Friday, if needed, to decide the Mets’ opponents.

    Champagne in Queens.

I could go on, but you get my drift?

Football players on the pitch win or lose matches, not financial turnover.

Hope you enjoy the match tonight if you can.

  12. Good luck to the Celtic tonight.

Any travelling Celts enjoy yer trip, I hope everything goes yer way and….most important of all, stay safe.

May God Bless All Celtic Supporters….off oot. YNWA.

  13. Four points from the head to heads with Molde would put us in a decent position in the group.

Keep it tight, no daft mistakes and look to get Commons on the ball around the edge of the 18 yard box.

    1-1.

Celtic will face the Puskas Academy in the second round of the UEFA Youth League.

The Hungarian champions demolished Apoel of Cyprus 6-1 tonight to go through on an 8-3 aggregate with Celtic qualifying on a 6-1 aggregate against HJK Helsinki.

Celtic are involved in the Champions route of the competition which also involves the teams playing in the Champions League with Celtic qualifying after winning the u-17 league last season with the UEFA Youth League involving u-18 teams.

Dark and overcast down here. The ferry is still running. So, the wind can’t be tooooooo strong.

Maybe someone will question Dallas’ role in UEFA. One can only hope.

You’re right commons is wasted on right, must be central. Have noticed though than there is much attacking from right side , no one overlaps

  23. According to The Sun….

CARLTON COLE was last night on the verge of finally agreeing a deal with Celtic.

The former England striker has been training with the Hoops for the past month.

SunSport understands Cole, 32, is now close to finalising terms after lengthy signing talks with the Parkhead hierarchy.

    Cole

Cole is close to agreeing terms with Celts Kenny Ramsay – The Sun Glasgow

English Premier League sides Sunderland and Bournemouth and Neil Lennon’s Bolton from the Championship were all chasing the free agent.

But Cole is keen to try something new after spending his entire career in England with Chelsea and West Ham.

Ronny Deila wants a target-man striker and Cole has been lured by the prospect of European football.

Negotiations have been complex as the experienced hitman is short of match fitness and picked up a calf knock.

However, it’s understood both parties have compromised and a deal could be struck when Celtic return from Europa League duty against Molde.

  24. The Living Wage issue is important to a lot of folk – quite right.

Looking from the outside, I’d imagine that a lot of the folk employed by Celtic in the ,catering, administration etc side of things would be part-time and, more than likely to be on some form of benefits as well so….this, paying of the LW might see the employee losing benefits?…..maybe not but, it is a rather complicated state of affairs…imho.

I dont agree that there is not enough income coming into the club to meet the demands of the LW if, that is an issue.

Another view to take would be, that there are folk at the club who are charged with putting a footballing set-up in place to secure the CL-money-pot.

Now, I know that nothing is guaranteed but, are we preparing as best we can to give the management team on the footballing side the best chance to achieve the CL-money-pot?

If the answer is yes then, it invites the question…are the footballing management team competent enough?

Are they capable of learning from mistakes?….like keeping playing Efe in acid-tests?

The present management team have failed two years in a row to, secure the CL-money-pot.

Should they be given more time to try for third attempt?

Should the CEO continue to pick up his bonus when, a department under his watch, fails to reach a target?

Will the corporate employees ever be held accountable by the very folk that they are supposed to serve?

Will the executive operatives ever explain why they didnt act to contest / dispute the LNS swindle?

Or, the lack of a challenge to the re-appointment of – “Dougie, Dougie!”

Or, the continued trashing of Celtic supporters reputations by the SMSM?

Or, the fact that Dave King was passed fit and proper?

Or, the continued honest mistakes with impunity?

Apart from take Celtic supporters money….what the fluk do they do?

    …..laters…..

  25. Neil Lennon and McCartney. Thanks for your reply. But we fail against these sort of clubs all the time. Maribor. Legia Malmö etc

Constantly against clubs of lower turnover

If it was now and again. But it’s now a struggle as we are not run as a football club

  26. Sydney Tim,

As champions of Europe we were eliminated in the first round by a very unfashionable and unfancied Kiev.
