Time to postpone Euros and prepare for domestic consequences

463

The next two rounds of games in La Liga have been suspended as the effects of the coronavirus grow in Spain.  Seven Bundesliga games will take place behind closed doors this weekend, as will all games in Ligue 1, while pretty much everything in Italy is shutdown.

This leaves England the only one of the big five leagues going ahead in front of full stadiums.  Infection rates in Italy, France, Spain and Germany are significantly higher than the UK, but it seems inevitable that public attendance at sporting events in the UK will be stopped within days.

As more players become infected, it will be impossible, and hazardous to players, to continue with football matches.  Uefa must accept that the Euros should be postponed, you cannot have tens of thousands travelling across the continent, then home again.  This competition is a crucial earner for Uefa and national associations; it will be a commercial washout if held this year.  Better on all counts to re-schedule for 2021.

Domestic competitions, as well as the Champions and Europa Leagues, should be allowed to run into June – all behind closed doors.

Re the pitch. Chick Young was saying on the radio the pitch at St mirren is in much better condition and the weather won’t be much different from Paisley to the South Side.

What have, or have they not, being doing to it?

Has the price of fertiliser gone up?

  2. I would imagine anyone wanting to put money into any football club would want to be holding on to see how this virus pans out and how the stock markets play out before putting in.

If it was me I would at least be re-considering the amount.

  3. After laughing at the huns tonight I used up my day’s allowance of tissues after this from twitter :

In light of recent of panic buying UK supermarkets have introduced purchase limits…

Asda: 2 hand sanitisers, 24 toilet rolls max.

Tesco: 1 Hand sanitiser, 18 toilet rolls & 2kg rice.

    Co-op: 12 rolls toilet paper, 1Kg rice.

Aldi: 2 Trumpets, 1 diving suit & a MIG welder

  4. That was very comfortable for the Germans. In terms of us and Sunday, 3-5-2 for me. Edmundson and Goldson against Eddie and Griff will pay dividends for us.

Kemberi may start a head of Morelos after tonight. Morelos was quiet but he also never tried a leg. He won’t need a shower after that match.

No way can I see them dropping off and sitting deep against us, as they did tonight in the first half, they’ll almost certainly go for the high press.

We keep things tight and look for Eddie and Griff in behind and we’ll be ok.

The pitch though worries me. It’s Sunday park standard. Sustained passing play will be at a premium.

Can they call off Sunday and miraculously recover to complete the tie on Thursday?

I think they’ve started another revenue stream by growing vegetables on the pitch and keeping the super markets stocked up.

More than welcome. Beauty about that link, is that we don’t have to listen to the usual unremitting pish from the ever present establishment lick-spittle sycophantic commentators.
