Aye, but neutral Lisboa territory that majestic day.

When have Celtic had a better away result in Europe than 3-0 in the opposing team”s stadium???

  2. i thought we could sneak a 2-1 win tonight.

at our best, and our opponents being in turmoil.

a 3-0 in our favour was dream land.

they are not a bad team. but when we click going forward we are magic, wonderful, beautiful.

boyata coming back is the difference, as soon as you can trust the defence, the forward play changes.

thank you brendan, record breaking continues,

3-0, away from home, in the champions league, superb.

  3. Some people getting pelters for having criticised aspects of the performance.

I assume their criticism was contemporaneous rather than retrospective , in which case fair enough, some of the play early on was a poor, but the team got better as the game wore on, though some of the finishing was still a bit profligate towards the end.

All in all though a fantastic result, which should make third place fairly secure.

And if the rate of improvement continues there’s just an outside chance of sneaking something against BM.

This is what Tom English said in his half time analysis:

“…In a Champions League context it’s second-rate stuff. Ncham (sic) gave it away four times in the first 15 minutes, Sinclair gave it away, Rogic gave it away. It was an epidemic of misplaced passes. …Anderlecht haven’t been up to much. Celtic’s goal was a moment of beauty dropped into a load of rubbish.”

Maybe he’s angling for a job on The Guardian, where being sniffily patronising to everyone outside of the EPL is a prerequisite, but as analysis it was about as insightful as a badly-aimed half-brick.

I am THRILLED at that tonight. I don’t care about Anderlecht’s woes – they don’t turn into a crap team overnight and beating them 3-0 in their own gaff is a great result.

And a huge confidence boost. We have the best squad I have seen at CP for many a year, and the best manager for even longer. We needed a result in Europe just to give the team a bit of self belief, which I think they were lacking in the CL.

    Well, we got that tonight.

Onwards and upwards, Bhoys! I wish my old Da was still alive to see this – new blood pumping through the Celtic, pure, beautiful, inventive football as somebody once said, total crowd-pleasers throughout the team, defenders that can put plodding Huns 20 feet in the air FAIRLY, dominant at home and starting to get back up there in Europe.

And the Huns dead. He’d never have believed that.

These are days to cherish! And it’s just the start.

    HailHail!

    ————————————————————————

Tom English is a shit journalist – that’s why he’s working for BBC Scotland.

Before the game he had absolutely NOTHING good to say about Celtic and in fact has spent his recent time stating on BBC that Celtic were CL cannon fodder. Spent all his pre-game air-time criticising Celtic for having a dreadful record – home and away, expecting nothing, in particular monstering Brendan Rogers for failing to have a single defender (his words) in the line-up.

    Afterwards?

Apparently Boyata and Simunovich were amazing, outstanding, preformed exceptionally, etc.

The guy is desperately trying to make a name for himself. He has all the insight of a fucking dung beetle.

Think rugby is his real interest. Or perhaps soup taking – whatever it takes to ingratiate himself to whoever hands out BBC sports journo jobs…

  5. Aaaaaaannnnnd, always look on the bright side of life, di di, di di, di di di di……………………….

Haven’t seen the game overall, but the result was mighty.

Let’s not eat ourselves when we win, or name call someone for having an opinion that differs!

Love and thumbs up, copyright SOAL and Philvisreturns.

    Tonight was a good night.

    Bring on the Munchens!

Celtic win two games in a row against managerless clubs.

    ##

Yeah but as Chris Sutton said, you can’t compare the two. One was a formality, the other was a challenge.

  7. Great result …… which for the slow of thinking is what history will record!

Lots of ‘experts’ turning up tonight thinking they are Bib Wilso reincarnated

If you are luring Huns then – in the immortal words of TD67 – ‘GIRFUY’

If you are Celtic supporters – away and take a right good look at yourself!

Over fifty years I have watched our team, I saw Billy score against Vojvodina, I saw the black and whit images as we parked the bus against Dunlap Prague away.

I saw us defeating Leeds home and away.

I was on the pitch at Brockville for 9 in a row.

After such a drought of away victories tonight should be celebrated

If you don’t think so get your Ovaltine and F off to bed

    Hail hail

  8. I don’t know why HT is getting such a hard time. It is his opinion and that’s fine, we all see the game through our own eyes. Personally, I wouldn’t say we were awful but I was concerned with our passing, something we are normally very good at. We were nervous, we had to shake off the ghost of PSG…and we did, eventually. So, credit to the players and Brendan…We are all ‘over the moon’ with the result but give it a rest with the condemning of posters for daring to criticise the first half performance…

  9. BSR, impressive stat, and that is very understated. Most possession and most passes.

Manager less clubs, now that was funny!

    :-)

  10. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Some brilliant counter-attacking from Basel. Would like to see us develop that side of our play for the games against the better teams.

  11. All about opinions.

I thought that was a controlled performance tonight and we should thank the huns for allowing us to practice the system at Saturday’s training game.

Watched Real Madrid game and one thing was revealing about Zidans coaching.Real play a possession and pressing game but they also mixed it up with long balls. This caused the opponents to drop deeper for fear of Ronaldos pace and created a bigger area for his creative players to exploit.

Our possession is very good but it is a little predictable at times.Adding some long diagonals would be a good variation.

  12. DD….@ 11.30…agree, it’s been a long time…(probably the best since L/pool 0-2 or Ajax 1-3)…and we’ll enjoy the moment

  13. Quatar SG Away Team Bayern Mun

*Looks like QSG were single fish the night, how much did they lose by?

  14. My god I just don’t believe the forensic analysis of passes etc that is going on tonight – this is our best away result in years – the emphasis is on ‘RESULT’ or would some panty wetter son here have preferred we lost 2-0 but could mpleted more passes?

  15. It’s like any argument about a relative versus absolute situation.

It only makes sense if placed in context.

Tonight was a massive performance over the 90-odd minutes and without doubt a massive result.

  16. Watching these games is nail biting.

Watching these games and commenting on CQN is lunacy.

    But entertaining.

I, like many, get caught up in the tension but it’s all part of the fun.

Despite errant passes, that was a fantastic result tonight.

Regardless of the situation Anderlecht find themselves in. Fantastic..

Not to be confused with the also beautiful Ms. Dee Hepburn, who is Scottish.

  18. Natknow…did you hear English and co taking the piss at Celtic’s passing stats compared with PSG, Bayern etc.?

Clowns don’t always make you laugh…

  19. We were away from home in a lively stadium with lots at stake.

Ntcham is a young man given a whole lot of responsibility.

    But we bossed them.

Even when we messed up through nerves, they were so anxious they couldn’t play.

Ollie warmed to the task, and showed us what a good player he is.

    So happy tonight.

In which case I sit corrected.

Reading what Tom English had to say about the first half, I think he was spot on.

However, the first goal settled us and got rid of the fear or whatever It was that caused such a careless and sloppy performance.

Over all a very good night’s work .
