Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

  7. From the BBC site:

“A former youth football scout has been arrested by police investigating allegations of historical sex abuse.

Harry Dunn worked for clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool and Rangers.”

Is it too much to hope that this will affect the Huns with their vile chants on this serious matter?

I think I know the answer.

  8. Yes, Coias for the Glasgow Derby. Are you having turkey?

Appealing though the Stornoway delicacy appeals, I will have to decline as I will be doing a few miles after leaving The Towers and a fry up does not sit too well ! A cup of coffee in the Carmyllie Sunshine would be excellent.

  12. Morning all

Boyata has had an interesting career – highly promising at Man City, he had played very little top flight football when signed by Celtic already in his mid 20s. His Celtic career was marred by defensive errors then injury. Always big, quick, muscular and imposing, he is now established in the 1st team with a run of 12 games and counting.

Celtic By Numbers has a look at the Deeds of Boyata – enjoy, share, comment – http://celticbynumberscom.ipage.com/deeds-of-boyata/

  14. Good to see the name ‘Rangers’ used at least once in proper context in the BBC article about King linked earlier, in which Glibby states:

“And the other important thing is Rangers had for a number of years the strongest retail operations in the UK and that has been completely lost with the present situation around the retail agreement.”

Unfortunately, massive fail at the end, as the words “completely lost”, should be followed by “with the liquidation of the club”.

Remember, he must accept that to be true, or why would he have talked in 2015 of taking the club out of liquidation to stop the mocking which the Zombies suffer as they are correctly told by other teams’ supporters: “It’s a new club!”.

  18. Portugal v Hungary on ITV 4 at 7:45pm. One of the better games at last year’s euros, 6 goals shared.

  19. As I’ve said before, Andre Rieu evokes the spirit of Carnaval at his concerts. In the weeks leading up to Lent, every town and village in the old Catholic South of Holland (where he comes from) have traditionally echoed to such celebrations. I enjoyed it for 3 years many moons ago…………Still brings a warm glow to my heart just remembering.

  20. As for ANY undisclosed documents between the deid club and the SFA and SPL, Couldn’t other member clubs, and/or supporters clubs request all information under ” The Freedom of Information Act” ?

    Just a thought.

I participated in similar celebrations while working in Bavaria back in the seventies, Faschingsfest. The local brewery was offering free beer to anyone joining in the fancy-dress street parade. When I went back home and showed the photos of a very drunk me in a clown costume, the most frequently asked question from people was why I hadn’t got dressed up like everyone else!

  24. Now hopefully no one will jump down my throat on this issue, which I am fully aware is a very sensitive subject but, I personnally see nothing wrong with challenging ” Hypocrisy”, no matter what shape or form it comes in ?

Re Harry Dunn who has now been charged with child offences, and his previous employment history with the deid club and other clubs, there is nothing wrong with any Celtic fan being forced to remind followers of the deid club especially of the old saying, ” Peepil in glass houses shouldnt throw stones” etc.

In my own opinion ( for what its worth ?), it is wrong that we Celtic fans should be seen to be “Tip Toeing” around this subject, just because the deid club have employed someone like Harry Dunn in the past ?

God forbid, what if someone PRESENTLY employed with the deid club was one of those sick bastards who ruins childrens lives ?

Are we to continue tip toeing around these bastards, because that is what all those associated with the deid club want, and would continue to want should abuse be happening at this time ?

For as long as I can remember ALL Priests have been wrongly demonised by “The Peepil”, and yet whenever some Vicar/ Minister etc is found guilty of such horrific offences, it’s quickly forgotten about by “The Peepil” !

i’m sick and tired of “the Peepil”, declaring themselves as “Christians”, and as being somehow superior to anyone else.

Just my opinion and it’s NOT intended to somehow be “Point Scoring”, but rather a clear and precise intolerance of utter hypocrisy at every turn !

    HH.

  25. My friends in Celtic,

There is no doubt the tackle on Seamus Coleman was an absolute shocker, was it intentional, we will never know.

Sky now stating that he has suffered a double leg break. Terrible news, I hope he can make a full recovery.

No doubt he and Everton will be well insured, however that will be no consolation at this time. His health comes first.

It’s typos like that which make me seriously consider changing my moniker!

  27. I always have a wee laugh when I come on here. Between Paul67 and his infamous articles and the stuff you guys post it really does raise a unexpected gargle of laughter from my tummy.

All this talk of 30 point leads when you are only 25 points in front, unbeaten runs, possible trebles, full season unbeaten domestic tat. It really does have me in fits.

Especially after our famous victory in your ground the other week which I spectated spectacularly on.

I AM THE GREATEST. Just look at my record! All wins so far, no defeats or draws under my tenure as the Greatest manager of managers of the Champions of Europe Elect.

As King David says, just you wait till we are Aye Ready. Then and only then can you judge your complex of lesser superiority. We are the only true institution on earth.

    Mind the gap!
