    Regarding the “guard of honour”

At first I thought like you that there was a bit of pettiness about it.

But on second thoughts I think it should be done this way forevermore. Rather than having some players showing dissent by their inaction while other players applaud.

Similar to applause rather than a minutes silence. It prevents the ignorant from having a platform to show it off.

  3. I hope a place can be found for Lenny within the Celtic structure ,head of scouting for instance, if he isn’t being considered for the managers position. Not sure if his pride would allow him to take it.

  4. Compper would not even know who Paul McStay is unfortunately.

He probably made more money than Paul did out of Celtic although Paul was well paid for his era.

Thankfully though it appears even the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs knew exactly who Paul was when he quietly met up at a manchester united training camp in australia under Davie Moyes.

And the Neil Lennon possibly getting some bad news theory is news to me .

    I really hope not.

He has already demonstrated that when it comes to Celtic, he has no pride, he is our bitch, and I for one hold him higher esteem for that sacrifice.

  8. Canamalar, I’m 71, almost bald, a Corkie and an unrepentant Fenian Bassa, I wasn’t discussing our CEO who I’m sure is capable of being extremely devious, I was talking about the beloved Brendan who appears to be the benchmark for future Celtic Managers,

    I’d rather Lenny any day.

  9. Professional football in the year 2019, and I don’t particularly like the sport nowadays.

Brendan, Moussa, Dedryck they all followed the money, ultimately and each one of them betrayed Celtic to a certain extent.

I’m thankful to all 3 of these individuals however, for the success they helped bring to the club.

Pointless concerning ourselves about them, they are irrelevant now.

Wasn’t it when he very publicly threw his toys out of the pram on TV regarding transfers? I have no way of validating any of the ‘rumours’ surrounding Rodgers time with Celtic but like everyone else try and read between the lines and come to my own conclusion. I chose to believe Rodgers was working his ticket a lot earlier than he would have us believe.

Since season 2012-13 the criterion for a player to receive a league winner’s medal is 5 appearances including off the bench.

Why were so players on the rostrum today?

Did Marvin Commper make case that he turned up for training at least 5 times, so he was due a medal?

  12. For me, Moussa Dembele didn’t have to be there today.

He took time out and made a conscious effort to attend.

He didn’t have to… but obviously was there, because he wanted to be there.

Therefore the guy has my respect. And he will be welcome back whenever he wants in the future.

If Boyata was trying to shift the blame for his desertion in our hour of CL need he can forget it. I appreciate the fact that he gave us his (limited) best when he came back into the team but nothing excuses the AEK fiasco.

  14. 16 roads 9.34pm

Spot on… all 3 played a part but have moved on, Boyata has had a great season both him & Moussa spoke well about us but “professionals” move on

Boyata has left for free we got Moussa next to free due to a clause … that’s today’s game

Celtic is their job, it’s our love :-)

Surely it should only be those who contributed to the title who got medals? And where was Izzy?

    Corky,

You were besmirching the nature of a man you do not know, someone who came to Celtic to do his utmost to improve and win with as did everyone who preceded him.

Before him Lenny was the last one to excel, how did that work out for Lenny?

Undermined at the time and this season, taken the loan of, do well enough and the job’s yous, sucker.

Is that the kind of man you want to run our club?

apparently so as do many others who spend all their time trying to ignore the evidence, cognitive dissonance appears to be a bigger problem for Celtic supporter than the huns

    Oglach,

and O choose to believe that BR found out the hard way that PL has no interest in supporting anyone but PL and if that means the team suffer to get rid of a competitor then so be it. Story’s of china did not appear until after PL refused to invest in BR’s targets.

  20. Yep Canamalar, I feel betrayed by Brendan, I’ve been around long enough to know that in the end with almost everybody it’s about the money but Brendan claimed to be one of us but he wasn’t, I don’t deny he did a good job while he was in charge but the manner of his leaving soured the legacy for this Tim.

  21. Probably punching a bruise with this but today’s game tells us far too much regarding where we are and what needs to be done for next season.

Huge gulf between what RD left us with in 2016 and what BR has left us with in 2019.

We need change from top to bottom — starting with a new captain.

VK yesterday showed how it should be done — top of your game with the crowd asking for more.

Better that way than hanging about like a bad smell reducing your legacy with each passing game.

We need to go large next season.

Not to put the TFOD2.1 in their place but to make us credible in Europe once again.

    Corky,

As I said cognitive dissonance is a problem most will be happy to take to the grave as long as they don’t have to think. keep on deluding yourself its always the newbhoy, its never the the people who have to keep resolving the same problems over and over and over and over and over and over …….. blond american birds are us eh

oh and O’m no 71 but its no hard to understand why the planet is in such a mess when so many have their heads so embedded in their fundaments.

Savour every moment of days like today.

I’ve stated on here several times that NFL is not my preferred choice for manager next season but I’ve huge respect for the man.

When Gerry McCulloch thanked him for taking over the job on Celtic TV today and Lenny said “it was my Club and it was my duty” I felt a lump in my throat and a big smile on my face.

    Thank you Neil

  24. Canamalar it’s gas how you just label anyone who disagrees with you , if only we were all as enlightened as you. I don’t claim to be a genius but I post from the heart, I have said what I said about Brendan and if you disagree then fine, let’s just leave it at that.

  25. CORKCELT on 19TH MAY 2019 9:34 PM

Totally agree. After what happened this season we need to be a bit more mindful about the importance of having someone in charge who won’t bail when a “better” opportunity arises.

We were very lucky that Lenny was available, we probably won’t get that chance again

  26. Moussa Dembele didn’t come to Celtic having grown up in the Paris banlieues, pretending to be a lifelong fan.

We got him ridiculously cheap and sold him 2 years later for £19 million.

He excelled himself against Sevco and in the CL.

It was a pity that he got hamstrung so often and missed so many matches but I won’t ever think badly about him.

  27. Ruggyman

    Corky,

my problem is that people who appear to be intelligent can’t remember yesterday’s lessons.

We seem to be relearning the same lessons every season and its always the newbhoys problem, never those that remain.

No consideration is given to where we could be if BR had been supported during last years transfer window, most likely he would still be Celtic manager. Even if he did move on after getting his first choice targets we would be in a much better position going into next season, he had four targets and not one was signed, how is that his fault and what does it tell you about the support he got from the executive?

He tried to rebel and got the full force of a propaganda machine honed to vilify anyone within the ranks.

  29. Hrvatski Jim

The “medals” dished out today are cheap trinkets from Ladbrokes. They are merely for the TV spectacle. Guys like Compper won’t get a genuine medal.

Still, it’s more that any Sevco player got!

  30. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

two players were offered major signings and an out if they conformed, both returned today to celebrate their part in caesar’s assassination, boyata and dembele were promised rewards for turning on their manager. Their manager was a threat to the status quo at Celtic Park.

I thought that too. Asked a friend.

He said that the medals doled out on the pitch are the sponsors’ medals. Everybody and the dug gets one.

God knows how the real ones are distributed. Probably just sent direct to Edmiston Drive.

I remember the home game in the champions league qualifier back in July when Moussa got injured. It was a real shame as we were playing with Moussa up front with Edouard just behind. The potential that partnership had was frightening! Such a shame we never got the chance to see it develop for at least half a season.

With this in mind HUGE credit must go to Odsonne Edouard (my choice for YPOTY) for how he has dealt with being our only striking mainstay this season and dealing with the pressure that involves.

If we can sign another striker/target man in the style of Moussa (by all accounts Bayo doesn’t seem like the answer at this moment in time) to accompany Eddy then I’ve no doubt we will see him truly flourish next year. In my opinion, despite Moussa having slightly more physicality and presence, Odsonne is the more natural talent and I think that he will command our record transfer fee in a couple of seasons.
