Cliftonville for Celtic in Champions League qualifier

691

The opposition may be less-illustrious than Juventus. our last European opponents, but the importance of next month’s Champions League second qualifying round games against Cliftonville still got the pulse beating.

It is a good draw for Celtic, who are spared travel and associated challenges.

The first leg, at Celtic Park, will take place on 16 or 17 July with return in Belfast on 23 or 24 July. Don’t book travel until dates are confirmed.

No interested in oldco either, the SFA denied Celtic shareholders not oldco, oldco no longer exist the SFA do, stay focused.

The SFA are liable, as I keep saying, we Celtic shareholders cannot hold the SFA to account but we can hold our representatives to account, as they are responsible to protect our interests in such matters, focus.

As someone who has supported celtic for 28 years, due to financial restraints last year I only travelled to 4 games . Most other weekends I chose to attend cliftonville games ( I live 40 minutes from Belfast). Whilst they are a part time team, they cannot be underestimated. They were by far the fittest team in the north, with no little skill and determination to go with it. Throw in the fact solitude can be a very noisy stadium and the pitch is 3G, very few teams left the ground with any points in the bag. Celtic , I believe will be too strong over 2 legs but Solitude will be no walk in the park.

    Hail Hail

  3. 67heaven…,

WRONG, I am asking those responsible for taking the decision to accept the minority shareholders loss, to compensate the minority shareholders from THEIR OWN HOLDINGS not the clubs.

You know this and know there is a major difference but like some sort of meeja guru you insist on creating misinformation and confusion. Why ?

  4. What is the Stars………..Agreed, the switch to summer football has been a huge success in the LOI. The pitches are all pristine condition and the quality of the football has really benefited as a result. Most LOI teams now get beyond the first round of European competition and teams like Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers have even gone further.

  5. Long time viewer, first post. I was watching CelticTV and they were showing a free video of the first day of training. There was a powerfully built player shown frequently in the video playing defense who I did not recognize and assume is a trialist. Definitely was not Virgil Van Dijk or Amido Balde. Anyone seen the video or have any idea who it is?

EDB – God Bless and may you find peace.

Your comments “stay focused’ and “focus” belie your earlier comments to the effect that alternative / challenging views are also welcome ….. I will, therefore, leave it with you to put your petition to our Board. I will continue to focus on supporting Celtic, and, when BDO / the Courts come to their conclusions / verdicts, we can then all consider what we can do about the money that has been ‘stolen’ from us, not by the Celtic Board, but by the corrupt low-lifes within Scottish Football / MSM / MIH etc ……. Hail Hail to you and the whole Celtic family…

Sorry for putting my view to you, as requested …… I do understand that you are proposing to demand major Celtic shareholders give minor Celtic shareholders compensation out of their own pockets ……sorry for trying to politely put my view to you that going down that road is futile, and unjustified ……will comment no further, since I don’t want to get you any more irate……

  9. i like the summer football try in ireland, i think its a success,

back here, they could have got creative and really thought about extended winter shut down, ang a short summer break between seasons , we are in europe earlier and earlier anyways.

would also like to see it adopted for all youth leagues, including ours.

    thumbs up to that.

meanwhile fans of a new club with no history anxioulsy wait on the ramsdens cup draw next friday, and ponder whether their young rotund manager can break his duck and bring them cup success,

while demanding to know why the cant play motherwell every week.

  19. I was just wondering what Jim Delahunt’s response be to the news Mark Hately being on the huns payroll. Surely BFDJ and Dalziel wouldn’t be on a radio phone in giving their impartial views and getting paid by the deed club. Surely no.

  20. 67heaven…,

Why does asking for focus belie anything ?

I accept your views are your views, I only question your IMO obvious attempts to create confusion, I have never said the club should pay for anything, in fact i clearly state those responsible for the decision should compensate the club from their own pocket.

Yet you chose to interpret what I consider is very clear and concisely targeted, at those who took the decision to ensure any loss will be bourne by the club, therefore all shareholders and supporters will actually be the ones who pay.

Your argument has attempted to turn that on its head and somehow, if they do compensate the minority shareholders for their despicable decision to accept the loss, they will take it from the clubs funds and not their own.

Deary deary me, are you Peter Lawwell ?

I thought I made myself clear, obviously not, by asking for such compensation I hope our incumbent representatives are left with no option but to deal with the SFA but you are bringing it back to me against the board, an attempt to polarise and trivialise the discussion.

Poor form, unless you are PL that is then, good try.

  30. Benjybhoy mul@ 12:32…

“From the comedy gold Bill McMurdo Blog this moring comes this wee gem:

“It is well-known that Rangers have extended favours to teams in the past. I remember two occasions from my boyhood when teams got end-of-season “surprise” results at Ibrox that helped them beat the drop”.

Surely Bill you’re not hinting that the Huns were involved in corruption by not trying?

I wonder which teams favoured by the Huns gained a sporting advantage?

    Huns, corruption, surely some mistake?”

    Benjybhoy mul…

I was intrigued by this comment of McMurdo’s and dug out my acquired copy of “Rangers (1873 – 2012) complete record”.

In season 1957-1958 a team struggling to survive in the old First Division came to Ibrox for their third last game of the season. They were in a tussle with several other clubs to avoid being relegated. The bottom two teams were relegated in those days.

This team beat the Rangers (1873-2012) 2-1 and ultimately survived the drop. Queens Park and East Fife were the unfortunate duo who were relegated.

Hearts had already won the League in a canter finishing 13 points ahead of the rangers (1873-2012).

Two seasons later, in season 1959-1960, the same team found themselves struggling again in the relegation zone when they played at Ibrox in their second last league game. Again there were several clubs involved in the dog fight at the wrong end of the table with Arbroath already down, Stirling Albion were the other desperate candidates for the drop.

On this occasion, the visitors to Ibrox managed a very creditable 0-0 draw and it was ultimately the Annfield side who dropped out of the league.

The visitors on each of these two occasions?

    Airdrieonians.

    Interesting.
