Job done by those who wanted illicit chanting confrontation

1049

Make what you wish of Strathclyde Police reporting Celtic fans for “illicit chanting” to a Uefa match observer in October, the bottom line is that Uefa have fined Celtic €15,000 (around £12,700), established a benchmark for future action and more importantly sullied the club’s reputation.

Job done by those who wanted this confrontation to happen.

As I’m not a member of the Catholic Church, but rather in the latter groups of folk you mentioned (atheist bordering on agnostic), I can’t speak to the Catholic Church on this.

But I can accept Celtic First’s answer to Neganon2 that they have, in fact, not let the matter of the lost statistics go. I asked a question, and he answered it.

Regarding the latter part of your questions, the Muslim community don’t have a head of church and hence general press office to reflect the concerns of their community.

As for the broad community of the Celtic Support – I can’t speak for the religious demoninations of the FAC who did make a peaceful demonstration and have more planned.

The point I have been trying to make is simply this:

The Catholic community need and rely on the Church to deal with the politics of this situation.

Celtic Supporters need and rely on the Club to deal with the same.

The treatment of those who attended the FAC demo has proved that they need the support of an official body of the Scottish legal establishment will abuse its powers to walk all over them.

I think by the tone of your post you think I’m attacking the Catholic Church – far from it, I was asking if it could be more vocal in protecting its congregation by doing more to follow up on the disgraceful “loss” of the sectarian crime stats. Celtic First, like I said, has addressed that question and if he trusts the moves made by the Church, then that puts my mind at rest.

It’s just the Celtic Board that I’m concerned about now, but again, maybe they will release a statement regarding this that will make a happy Tim again.

    Ok?

  3. How will the Scottish authorities categorise this?

Wrong place at the wrong time? unfortunate? Nothing like that ever happens here/he was known to the police.

Wil the trial be in Edinburgh?

    “Alabama” :))

Was surprised to read that was Salmond’s motivation for concealing them. But aye, agreed, if it was, they must have been truly startling figures.

This makes his response to them extremely worrying. He is threatening to give increased powers on a grand scale to a polis force that has a questionable history itself regarding anti-Catholic bigotry and anti-Irish racism, and their pre-emptive response so far has been an active prophecy of what we can expect.

Not very smart people, being given excessive powers and control, and using them to target minorities. Sounds familiar, if ye know yer history :(

    Re :Kojo’s Goodnight posts.

Clearly, they are activation messages intended for his Secret Agents, dotted around the Globe.

On seeing his codename referred to on the blog, the agent knows that he must proceed to a pre-arranged dead letter box, to receive some specific instructions.

Sometimes,in emergencies, and in the interest of expediting urgent action,a short coded message is linked to the codename of the agent, thus :-

Bill Carrigan,(and his magnificent waxed moustache) alerts the agent to discreetly infiltrate the residence of Neil Canamalar, and check under the bed for any UXB).

Most recently, there was a bit of a flap on. Agent Harry Conway(and his red haired wife)…was a red flag alert, which required the agent to proceed to Glasgow, with all haste,to terminate Comrade Ernie….with Predjudice…

I hope that this information goes some way towards demystifying these enigmatic posts from our pal.

Love the name btw, spent manys a bobs at Paddy’s in my time, not long after the 1st Iraq war, and the soldiers were coming home, there was a bloke there selling machine guns, trophys I believe, and a copper bought one, he was in uniform with his collegue, totally bizzare, he walked away as proud as punch.

I digress, we have no choice but to stick together, the new legislation, the constant media attacks are aimed at dividing us, the board have a choice to make, I wonder what choice they will make ?

It’s gone way beyond football, politics have taken over, we are being used as a pawn in the political games being played, we either do someting about it or forget it.

I already referred to that incident in my earlier posts, and have done many times.

An official statement from the Catholic Head of Church is what is needed.

Would you get off yer fecking high horse in jumping the gun and thinking I’m attacking the Catholic Church. Although an atheist I grew up with a Catholic education that I value and cherish. This is why I’m keen to see more being done to protect the Catholic community in Scotland.

Thank you for engaging in a good discussion in a good spirit.

A big manly Hail Hail to the both of you.

  14. The songs debate has the ability to divide us. The reason for that potential division is the very fabric that makes the Celtic support so great – the diverse, all inclusive nature of this wonderful football club.

We will have those who recognise that continuing with certain songs will see the club head for closed door European matches in the fullness of time.

We will have those who wish to preserve the right to be political and everything that entails in our Irish history and heritage.

And there will be 4o shades of green in between.

You know what? Every single one of us will be right.

That’s why we, as a support, needs to be smarter than the average supporter. The Green Brigade have shown the way with this and have largely responded to Victorian police methods with a maturity that defies their “media persona” – banners and messages, rallies and protests, letters and emails and – most importantly – the ability to have a flexible song choice.

Keep Celtic as our first and only priority and watch us adapt and modify with effortless ease. Let’s not fall to the easiest tactic of all and divide – the Celtic support are magnificent in adversity. We can render them impotent with a unity and imagination.

No division, no confrontation, just Celtic. Lead the way bhoys – the Green Brigade can lead this and the stadium will follow. Keep on the right path bhoys.

  15. Celtic_First @ 22:26

I wasn’t suggesting that timescale at all, merely that the meeting and “loss” of stats happened at the same time, ie within a couple of weeks of each other from memory.

But I accept what you say. If you believe that the Church is doing enough on this issue then I accept that, and am genuinely glad of that at least.

Like I keep saying, we need people who are blessed with the position to stand up for our communities.

You see the type of information which it seems, has been left to over indulgent Celtic fans to uncover; the likes of Phil Mc, Tom Devine, the link Ard Macha posted earlier and the various supporters forums such as this one – that is the kind of potentially dynamite information I would have hoped Scottish Labour – with much more time, resources, knowledge and freedom to information would have been working overtime on – maybe even 9 hour days – to uncover and release.

If Labour had any intention of exposing the SNP for what it is, if they had any intention of whether its by hook or crook – and by that I mean whether its because its the right thing to do, or whether its because it has now found itself in the position of the opposition and no longer party in power – they would have. If the dirt is as filthy as we believe Labour could have created an almighty storm of all storms and beaten the new super power SNP into submission.

    Their silence has been deafening.

They are as complicit as the SNP are in my opinion.

They could have done the right thing, the right thing would have also swung thousands of votes back in their favour and they have basically done nothing.

I have no time for Labour.

Apologies pal – I realise there will be good people within – however the good people are obviously nowhere near being in a position of the necessary authority. The ones who are, are just as bad as the SNP

    yes ok

    thankyou for that thorough response

    you mentioned 2 things

1 – that you are not a practicing Catholic and so cannot speak “to” the Church about the politics here…..i think your opinion is valid whether you pratice or not (i.e. the very meaning of catholic)

2 – I’m questioning why Celtic PLC & the Church are allowing these matters to go unaddressed. They have very different areas to defend, but the common demoninator is that they are both up against anti-Catholic bigotry.….silly question i suppose but hey ho i’ll ask anyway…..how are Celtic up against anti-Catholic bigotry? is it cos the bigots see Celtic and Catholicism as one? which of course they are not ! as shown by the fact that CFC have never proclaimed the Catholic message of “love your enemies, do good to those who persecute you”…in fact i’d go as far as to say that Celtic and Catholicism (fidelity to Christ) can at times be polar opposites ! (altho they can of course be in union at times too….when the Celts play beautiful, free-flowing creative football, conduct charitable activity etc etc)

‘Why have the police only reported our fans?’

I think part of the reason is that for some time there has been a lot of ill feeling between Celtic and the Scottish refereeing community and the match commander at Celtic Park was until recently a referee.

He took part in the ‘strike’ which ended in a humiliating climb down by the referees.

Reporting us to the SPL and UEFA was an act of revenge.
