Ladbrokes SPFL use Level5 to dig into Celtic

656

Level 5, the PR company born out of the need to convince Newco fans to back one specific camp, have been given the Ladbrokes SPFL contract. Promotion of the SPFL is the responsibility of sponsor, Ladbrokes, who also pay for PR, this was not a decision by the league or member clubs.

Their brief is to manage the news and keep the words Ladbrokes SPFL in the news. Recent coverage has been a case in point.

Yesterday’s newspapers gave an excellent example of how this is operating.  Ladbrokes wanted their app promoted for free in the newspapers. Their Level 5 performed to task, the Evening Times ran with:

“Murdo was promoting a new Ladbrokes ’Track Your Acca’ app which allows punters to track their bets and cash out on the go – for full details log on to thegrid.ladbrokes.com”

While the Daily Record ran with:

“MacLeod was promoting a new Ladbrokes ‘Track Your Acca’ app that allows punters to track bets on the go – for full details log on to thegrid.ladbrokes.com”

Both a copy and paste from the press release.

Here’s the rub, though. The bait for both Ladbrokes adverts was Murdo having a go at two different Celtic players. The League’s sponsor is employing a PR company, who could have chosen any subject at 42 clubs, but they chose to have a dig at Celtic players.  Digging at Celtic players is one of the most reliable ways to ensure your comment runs in the newspapers.

That PR company just happens to be staffed by a former employee of a club who can hardly make a public comment without proclaiming their desire to bring down Celtic.

Ladbrokes got their promotion and two Celtic players were used as fuel, this is unacceptable. The League sponsor cannot employ a PR company who have enjoyed such a close relationship with a PR-dependent club, while undermining Celtic.

It is a fundamental conflict of interest and has to stop, Celtic cannot be cannon-fodder for the SPFL sponsor. Ladbrokes are representing the League on PR matters and cannot undermine the Celtic in this way.  The SPFL cannot allow their competition to be undermined by partisan promotion.

Let @Ladbrokes know your thoughts.

Longtime lurker but first time poster. Re JF, can we put one thing to bed regarding his failure to appear in no more than 4 consecutive appearances for the first team. Between September 2011 and January 2012, JF started in 22 (yes 22) consecutive games for the team!

  5. Just back from Celtic Park where Brendan Sweeney hosted a very successful book launch event for Celtic; The Early Years. He’ll still be there signing copies as the queue was absolutely huge!

Dr Joe Bradley (Celtic Minded books) spoke very well, as did Lisbon Lion Jim Craig, who brought along formation sheets from the early days when we played with 6 forwards and the centre half was an attacking player.

But the most emotional talk came from the author who talked us through the book and mixed in some very personal experiences. He read an extract from 1888 when Celtic had just lost a match and the team was the subject of much jeering from disappointed supporters. The players were told that those jeering would be forced to come back and cheer by future performances on the park.

Jim Craig signed a dozen copies for me and these are available to CQNers now.

Nice to see Matt McGlone there, after his ordeal this week. He can hold his head high in Celtic company, unlike some others who appeared in that courtroom.

  14. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gary Gillespie, the 4 3 game at Tynecastle you mentioned was my first visit to Tynecastle.

Willie Gibson scored a hat trick in the first half for Hearts with big Roddie and the buzzbomb scoring for us.

Kenny and Ronnie Glavin scored in the second half for us.

Danny and Kenny were absolutely magnificent in that game.

My favourite game there was when we beat them 5 1 in 1984, choccy got a hat trick, Tommy scored and a paroxide parasite scored our other.

I also got back to my Da’s in Irvine a wee while ago after attending the book launch.

Did not get time to suss out any CQNers as my old da was tired and I was one the first to get my book signed by the great Jim Craig and Brendan himself.

  16. Looks like informed sources tonight speculating that Big Mike is flexing his muscles, and threatening King with “cease and desist” letters over Sevco’s IP (which Uncle Mike, thanks to King’s refusal to pay back his money, now owns).

Net effect: Huns ‘players cannot have Huns’ crest on the Hun shirts. No Hun shall use Hun crests without saying pretty please to His Bigness first.

I really, really, hope this is true…

  17. Scullybhoy,

Yes the original William Hill was a Black and Tan.

    Last few days in Celtic,

Matt McGlone has to stand up and tell the truth in court. Newspaper coverage does not cover all of the evidence in court.

Scottish Cup sponsor extends deal by four years

A four-year extension has been agreed with the Scottish Cup’s title sponsor, the Scottish FA has announced.

In addition to its support of the knock-out trophy, bookmaker William Hill will also continue to be the national team’s official partner.

And it will now also sponsor the South Stand at Hampden Park.

William Hill’s existing contract still had a year to run, but its investment in Scottish football will “now surpass the eight-figure mark”, says the SFA.

The company has had a seven-year relationship with Scottish football and the SFA says they “are also set to sign a betting integrity agreement in the coming months”.

The SFA announced the deal, which lasts until 2020, ahead of the draw for this season’s third round.
