Neil’s back, Anthony’s off

454

Best wishes to Neil Lennon is his new role as Hibernian manager. Without wanting to be impolite about Alan Stubbs, Hibs have traded-up in getting a manager of international repute and experience at the highest level of the game.

Neil is a talented coach who got unlikely results across his Celtic career. He’ll bring Hibs up next season and establish a platform to rebuild the club.

Best wishes too to fellow Irishman Anthony Stokes, who left the club yesterday six years after joining from Hibs. The best of Anthony was there for all to see at the Scottish Cup final. He’s still only 27 and, should he find the appetite, he should still have a few good years in the game. His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago.

Celtic legend, Charlie Gallagher, will be signing copies of his autobiography at Waterstons, East Kilbride, this Saturday (11th) from 2pm, and 2pm the following Saturday (18th) at Waterstones, Braehead. Get along to see him!

Good luck to all involved in the Green Brigade Anti-discrimination tournament at James McGrory Park on Saturday. If you’re not in East Kilbride, get along.

  1. I think there has to be some investigation going on around the SFA/RFC/UEFA, bizarre that papers are turning down basically free money.

Pulled this from the comments section of another blog re Guardian decision,

‘In passing, I can can confirm that Daniel Taylor – The Guardian’s 2 x winner of Football Journalist of The Year Award – currently in France for Euro 2016 – has revealed he knew “zero” about the story. However, Matt Taylor, Chief Sports Reporter for the Press Association has promised to look into it today.’

So it appears that Warbiola called Phil MacGB in error. Who did he THINK he was calling?

What we need is an Edward O’Snowdon character to burst on the scene and break ranks from the SFA, SPFL, or even TRFC.

On the subject of the £5k fund for the Gaurdian advert. Many posters have commented on the relative ignorance of the issues around Res12 amongst the wider Celtic support. Others have pointed out the need to involve other supporters of other Scottish clubs, so that the whole issue is not seen as a Celtic Rangers(sic) one.

Would a flyer campaign not be a good use said funds? (possibly backed up with further fund raising) to be distributed outside the grounds of as many Scottish clubs as possible on the opening day of next season.

The issues could be fed to a wider audience this way, and it would only take one flyer to end up in front of someone who may be in a position within the media, or PR to perhaps get results.

The great lie is a form of mass hypnosis on Scottish Football fans and stakeholders. The more people that can be exposed to the counter narrative by way of antidote, the better.

Could be make or break for Neil. Either way he definitely has a future in the game as I find his match analysis on the radio first class.

Stokesey did well for us but I think a move now is good for both player and club.

The Guardian and Herald (non) ads has resulted in us spending £0.00 of your crowd funded money. The coverage is now gaining momentum and there is much more to follow as the message gets out and journalist all over the place are asking questions.

If you haven’t ordered your t-shirt to support the Res12tance I reckon you should get a move on.

The suggestion of using Private Eye is an interesting one – they regularly run stories about press hypocrisy, and they were quick to criticise the Telegraph for allowing its editorial content to be influenced by advertising revenue.

Now if someone could find a story where the Guardian had criticised the Telegraph over this – then I think the Eye would lap it up.

  18. Re: the Guardian advert. Online advertising

It might be worth checking out internet advertising agencies who work with betting companies websites or football websites/fanzines – if the pop-ups and advertising banners on the CQN mobile website are anything to go by then it is worth looking into.

  20. Repost from previous blog, this response was what was given to the Readers’ Editor as a reply to my question and not her own reply;

Thank you for your email. The advert you refer to was booked in before copy was seen, which is not unusual. When the first advert came in (in French) it was reviewed and the decision reached was that the tone and content were not in line with our advertising terms and conditions. When a second part of this advertising campaign came in (this time in English) it was also declined.

We remain committed to impartial sports reporting; acceptance or refusal of advertising does not in any way reflect our editorial position. Readers remain free to pitch stories to our editorial desks.

Here is the Guardian News and Media statement:

Divided the support, often frustrated but often under-rated. Saved Lenny’s career and provided the platform for the Barca glory by leading the fightback at 0-3 v Killie. Magic feet set up JF’s winner v Karagandy to get us into the CL.

Ultimately ‘replaced’ by a series of players who proved only that they couldn’t lace his boots and the manager’s judgement was critically flawed.
