Tannadice perfect preparation for Champions League

404

I can remember a few comfortable wins at Tannadice but only when Celtic have played at their very best.  Even good Celtic teams have found Dundee United a handful for over 30 years.  Tomorrow will be no different.

I watched some of United’s League Cup game against Hearts on Wednesday, it’s hard to figure out where Peter Houston is taking them, but they remain recognisable as Dundee United, they are skilful and play a fast, passing, game.  In many respects, they are the perfect domestic opponent to face before meeting Barcelona.

The shadow of Champions League football will cast itself over Neil Lennon’s plans, even though the manager will understand the best preparation for a big game is to win the previous game, so Celtic will travel with as much urgency as they can muster.

We need a point to replace Edinburgh Hibernians (it is the modern style to use pre-liquidation names) at the top of the SPL, anything less would be unsatisfactory.

This is one of the few times I’ve been out of tune with NFL on player performance. I didn’t rate Emilio at the Nou Camp, but perhaps I was focusing too much on his aimless passes forward when he got the ball. Lenny went out of his way to praise Emilio afterwards, saying he played a brilliant defensive game.

I’m humble enough (I’m looking skyward at this point) to concede this point to admit I probably got it wrong, but I must also be consistent – what’s sauce for the Lustig is sauce for the Izzy. I just feel Izzy’s forward play has had a lot of uncertainty about it.

Mate bed time for me, I’ll watch the game when I get back from work tomorrow; but if your post was in response to that wee ‘hi’ post… that was my wee boy messing about when I was out having a smoke.

Neil Lennon said a few pertinent words just recently, the jist of which was that our season is not over regardless of the result against Barca. For me the result today is much more important.

The poppy has become a hostage to crude sectarian prejudices in Scotland, it did not just happen in this decade, you can go all the way back to the twenties of the last century to find the roots of ‘ethnic exclusion’, but sure as hell is hot… the ‘poppy symbology’ is now being aggressively exploited in the name of sectarian one-upmanship in this decade – in Scotland.

It is sad when you can’t even honour your own, and your countries, dead without your grief being bastardised, and soiled, by the agenda driven demand for the public display of PC and Crown endorsed labels by Neanderthals.

    Hmmm.

We’ve two good rights backs in Lustig and Matthews but Izzy is the only natural left back and arguably overall easily and by a million miles the best we’ve had in years.

Long shot : Anybody have a link to a stream of the game today that’ll work on my iPhone?? HH

  7. Paul67’s decision to close the site from 1AM until 10AM, in an attempt to restrict the Creatures of the Night from frightening those of a gentle disposition, was for a one-off trial period.

Those in favour of a permanent ban on the nocturnal rantings of the Twilight Zone will shortly be asked to vote on the measure.

It was for your wee bhoy then ;-)

I totally agree Tannadice is the much more important game, and if NFL didn’t know that before he surely learned it, when Kilmarnock beat us last week.

I think they were referring to their own programme, which ‘kicks off’ at 6.00pm. The match kicks off at 7.45.

I never buy the mail but my son dropped one in earlier. As far as I can see the L word does not appear anywhere. THE biggest story in the history of Scottish football is blanked. And then there’s Uncle Tom Keevins having his weekly dig at CFC. This trumpet pontificates to us that it would be ‘financial suicide’ to allow free sponsonship on the shirt. How much do we make per year from Tennents, £1,2m?

I think its safe to say that Barcelona are giving up north of 25m per year, even though they run with about £500 debt. This lazy journo does not even bother to mention the many hidden benefits of sponsoring a world renowned charity, not to mention the PR the club would gain. Keevo points out that it would also be folly for a company to sponsor one half of the (i refuse to use the term). So in that case maybe we could go with Greenpeace. A hun boycott wouldnt hurt them. The biggest benefit though would be sacking the partnership with Corrupt FC. That is something which HAS to happen.

  12. A wee peek at the league table is all Neil should need to motivate himself and, by dint, his team.

Although can’t praise enough what Pat Fenlon is doing with Hibs. Always seem to heading home from work pre 3pm kick off and popping to the shops post 4.45pm and put the radio. Last night, in between, the ML1ers and the Sevconians, they mentioned the Hibs result – and in the same breath, that Hibs’ problem would be holding on to Leigh Griffiths etc.

The more things change, the more things stay the same – Successful team wearing green and white? Talk up their best players getting sold…

Agree almost entirely with your observations. Just “hidden benefits of sponsoring a world renowned charity, not to mention the PR the club would gain” I think is wrong.

It would be ignored here, in the same way the 55,000 at the Celtic Man U Legends charity game was.

I’d rather have The Captain fit for Wednesday.

His drive and enthusiasm might help produce a good result.

Even a draw would be ok.

  19. Hooper is a big miss given his scoring record at Tannadice.

If Miku isn’t good enough to get a start when we have 4 strikers out injured then you have to ask why is he there? Can loan deal be terminated in January?

  21. Think I quite like the side, – a cautious line up with just one main orthodox striker in Tony Watt.

This gives us the midfield batton, where goals could come from Commons Ledley or Mulgrew.
