Turmoil in Zenit squad

365

There’s turmoil in the Zenit St Petersburg squad. Two players, striker Artem Dzyuba and midfielder Oleg Shatov, are in conflict with the club and will not travel to their winter training camp in Dubai.

Both players are current Russia internationals; Dzyuba scored eight goals in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, making him the country’s top scorer in the tournament. Zenit face Copenhagen in Dubai on Monday, the first of six friendly games, before they face their first competitive game of 2018, in Glasgow, four weeks tomorrow. Their last game was on 11 December.

Some poor Celtic scout will be charged with taking in Zenit’s three games in Dubai next week. It is a thankless job.

SSE Live Awards 2017

I know you enjoyed that week in May as much as I did, when we won the treble then celebrated the Lion’s 50th anniversary.  The SSE currently has an online poll looking for their top event of 2017.  You can go here and vote for ‘Celebrate 67 Live’.

Get it done.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT NOW FEATURING TOMMY SHERIDAN

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 30th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Kevin Graham is joined by Scotty Alcroft to interview Scottish pro-independence politician, Tommy Sheridan, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

The other voice you may hear throughout this episode is that of former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, who is a friend of Tommy’s, and who was also interviewed separately that day for a future show.

You are sure to enjoy Tommy’s eclectic input, as he discusses everything from Catalan independence to Coolio, with a constant undercurrent of that thing called Celtic.

  1. I keep reading that we are extra hampered cos we have to pay four qualifiers, what a load of pish, we have an extra game against even pisher than we have had so far, we will still have to play the decent teams, but the extra game is a waste of space to use this as an excuse is a joke.

We have enough ball watching centre half already.

Aye, it’s getting like that so it is, the decent debate has gone, it’s all about well I have no idea, it’s sure not a patch on what it was a few years back, I was attracted to the site for the debate and the argument, now it’s if you rock the boat woe betide.

Ach well, it is what it is

  4. Meanwhile in a parallel universe Celtic are heading for 7 Leagues in a row living within its means as one of the best run ( probably THE best run) clubs in the UK.

Set for appearing in Europe post xmas for the 7th time in 38 years and with a world class manager and robust playing pool management strategy in place. Miles ahead of it’s domestic Ci petition selling our domestic and european games. Our closest domestic rivals and local rivals cannot didn pay cash for plsyers.

Still we have sad malcontent whingers on here like school kids whose burds have ditched them and who need to pretend they never fancied them to save face. Saying they have spots or smell or something.

I can’t begin to imagine how CQN would have been in 1999 or 2000 or even the TB era or worse the pre JS era.

Anyone out there who supports Celtic might want to consider and maybe enjoy a bit. These are truly great times. We don’t win 5 nil every week but these are great times and if you can’t enjoy Celtic now maybe worth sticking to playing FIFA or other fantasy activity.

I would be in the minority, but IMO you are a breath of fresh air on here, the site is getting to easy, posters like you are needed to get them up out of their safe place, it’s too easy talking about things that really dinny matter, you know that I am as rabid as they come, prob is there is nowhere to discuss it any more, the rebels have lost, money has taken over, well done Pedro, you really are a star

I am all for celebrating what is good … both on the pitch and off ….but, anymore than those who cant see the good, there are a whole lot of fans (including many on CQN) who wont hear of any criticism of our Board (when some is clearly merited) ….

That blind allegiance and refusal to question anything is what lead the zombies’ old club to its demise …

We may not be going down the same rabbit hole as them…. but there is a real danger that we are going down a rabbit hole nonetheless

” In time, the ‘Rebel’ moniker retook a hold and replaced the ‘malcontents’ label, but still it’s a tag worth revisiting once in a while.

Times may have changed, and the club became a well-functioning PLC, but old habits die hard. The formation of the Green Brigade in some ways reflects the old ‘malcontent’ attitude in a new form, and with their battles against certain establishments (all non-violent from the GB’s end) they have certainly taken on the torches from their forebears. Many of their great banners also carry on the tradition of the great humour of the support too.

With the core anti-establishment values of the support and the natural backing for the underdog, the ‘malcontents’ label is surely quite apt for the Celtic support, and we wouldn’t want it any way else. “

What are peoples problem with “The Board “.

    Ticket prices too high ?

Not enough investment in the playing staff

Not living up to Brother Walfrids vision/ideals

Not doing enough to prevent zombie rangers re emerging

Not demanding that titles be stripped

    Having heated driveway

    Being capitalist imperialist pig dogs

    All of the above

  13. Celtic Plc are happy to take money from folk to watch nothing short inferior football.

Celtic Plc have said nothing as Sevco walk over Scottish Football.

Celtic and Oldco have won the Premier League 47 out of the last 50 years.

Why is there a cause for such celebration when Oldco die and Celtic win the league?

Given the lack of opposition and our resources a failure to win the league would be a disaster.

The away win in Belgium was impressive but it didn’t impress everyone here (Turkeybhoy :) )

If Brendan is one of the best coaches in Europe why was he turned down by Swansea? Why was he out of work?

Why does he appear to have difficulty working with a number of our players and his recruits? Is he struggling with players of limited quality? Can he motivate them?

There is something wrong in the Dressing Room. Are players tired?? Performances have individually and collectively dipped?

    What’s the problem?

Celtic Supporters are not being told the truth about the return of Sevco,

Some supporters and posters appear willing to take a back seat on the bus.

This Blog is producing party political drivel. The editorial is hardly worth reading. A return to some form of investigative journalism would be welcome.

Many seem just to shout ‘Great Times’ but are they preparing themselves for the inevitable Sevco win of the League?

The tenure of Peter Lawwell especially during the ‘shoot a fish in a barrel years’ has been poor.

Managerial appointments, ECL failures, treatment of supporters, communication, arrogance and a lack of transparency and honesty.

I would argue to do nothing and cough up in the current circumstances is doing more damage to the Celtic Family than anything I can remember.

A few months ago esteemed posters were predicting a European trophy, today it seems that we can barely put together a central defence.

    ——

Because of the CL qualifiers we don’t have a close season. Last year the invincible treble-winning players got 2 weeks off before they were back in.

This year there’s an extra qualifying round, two more games, home and away. ‘Away’ could be Kazakhstan. Again. In our close season, when players are meant to be recharging.

    That’s not an excuse.

If we accept that we have to play in Scotland for the foreseeable future and we can only play against what we face, then I feel we’re not where we should be at this point.

Our (only) system for playing it out from the back has been well and truly stymied by nothing more than a high and energetic press.

Our stars of last season are dull by comparison.

The ball is all too often played straight feet or behind the man thus removing dynamism from our movement.

The FOD despite 12 months of on and off the field ‘own foot shooting off madness’ are 5-6 goals better off when playing us then at this time last season.

Accepting that we’re not playing well doesn’t make me spoilt. It makes me objective and ambitious for us to punch out weight.

sometimes I get a bit frustrated by the direction CQN has taken. For me, it used to be one of the best football sites on the blog, let alone the best Celtic site. But it no longer does what it says on the label.

However, there are still a lot of really good posters, and I enjoy the craic for the most part, so I stick around.

I know many who seem to think BR is infallible but I am not one.

I do sense there are few boards who have produced consistent better results from their start point than ours.

I also sense there are fewer better fits for celtic than our current management team.

Happy for anyone to point me to a better run club of similar size anywhere and happy for anyone to recommend better management.

Just like whenever anyone asks a malcontent for a suggestion of a player we could realistically attract who would improve our squad we get tumbleweed.

I suspect even with prompting there won’t be many suggestions to any of the above…..
