  1. I am Neil Lennon on a celticrollercoaster on

Evening Bhoys, and a good performance with heart tonight! Oh yes and a result.

1-0 down after 2 mins, I was thinking football suicide the Celtic way! Said to the lad next to me, let’s see what our team is made of and tonight Matthew, bhoys became men.

Great performances from Kayal and Vic67. Well done Sammi. Forster, Forrest, our kiddie CH and indeed the rest of the team.

Looking forward to scudding the Mothers on Sunday!! Will be there courtesy of the Champagne Express.

ps who will pick the captain ball out the hat for Sunday?

  2. Kayal33 @ 23:39

Sammy was very good tonight. Better than Ki. Ki should grow a beard and take it from there. It works for the two Peles and Sammy. Sammy especially. Who carries smaller players in his beard.

But Sammy was very good tonight.

  3. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

    I have to say..

When Lenny brought Hooper on I thought NO NO NO!

I thought we were about to grab a draw from the jaws of victory, with Sammi, Commons, Stokes and Hooper all likeley to get caught up field when we needed men behind the ball…what do I know?

Luckily on Level 3 coach course next week – hopefully they’ll cover tactics!!

  4. Great can’t beat a win in Europa.

Obviously not the great heights of beating the mighty Lyon at their peak but nevertheless an impressive 3-1 victory.

Watch out rangers it’s not just the taxman that’s after you now!

  5. The Honest Mistake (Sickened) on

Beating Rennes 4 2 on aggregate. Who was saying that we don’t have a team again?

    Brilliant stuff.

What’s the difference between Europe and domestic campaigns?

Willie gollum. The biggest problem we’ll face this year.

  6. Lubo's two feet on

Oh another point guys, see rennes corners and free kicks in the first half, absolute bullets crosses. Fired in flat and with power, the way lubo used to get them in!

  7. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!! Tick Tock !! on

That game tonight proved that Neil is the man for Celtic…….so why is it not working in the SPL…??

    How’s about…

    1)…..MIB standards / leanings toward another team….

2)…..Media negativity to all things Celtic…

3)…..Injuries as a result of other SPL teams kicking us off the park….

4)…..Some of our players not showing the character / urgency / commitment they showed tonight

All we can do is SUPPORT the team like the fans did tonight, and hope our players realise that, until rankers go out of business, they will get all the help necessary to win the league…..they need to rise above it all……like Neil did / does…..!!!!!!!…..not easy…!!!

Did anyone else notice the media / pundits panic today

“rankers will be in real trouble if they lose another striker”…LOL

  8. Enjoyed that tonight and the one person I want to single out is Neil Lennon.

He gambled in resting Mulgrew, Ledley & Ki so they’d have a chance on Sunday, leaving himself with a makeshift back 4 and a bench of kids as defensive replacements. Even when Glenn did his hammy again, he resisted bringing Victor back into defence and threw on a kid. He gambled with a narrow 2:1 lead against a slick counter-attacking Rennes side with pace aplenty.

And he utilised his tactical skill (non-existent, according to some) to protect that makeshift back 4 with 2 defensive mids. Kayal & Wanyama were absolutely central to restricting Rennes to one goal, well them plus 2 smart saves from Forster (which will probably be wiped quickly from our fans’ collective memories). Setting up like that meant extra defensive running for Paddy, James, Sammi & even Stokes. All of them did their work willingly.

That was a victory for effort as much as skill. It has changed nothing yet in the balance of the SPL title race. It will mean nothing if we have a performance like Killie first half or rangers 2nd half when we go to Well on Sunday. But it will do wonders for the morale of the players and coaching staff.

I heard Neil’s interview after the match. he was entitled to a few told-you-so’s after the week of criticism he has had but he resisted the temptation. He heaped praise on his players. He praised and acknowledged Stevie Frail’s input to the sub decision for Marcus Fraser. All in all, he handled himself with his usual intelligence and grace.

Well done Adam Matthews, a cheapo Bosman Project seemingly

Well done, Victor Wanyama, another kid who was thought to be bought for the future but is already contributing

Well done, James Forrest, that 5 yard burst of pace and accurate shooting is a godsend

Well done Beram Kayal for getting back to your all round effort with controlled aggression

And particularly well done to our management and support. To hear the Jock Stein stand respond so loudly to the Green Brigade was a pleasure.

On to Sunday. Motherwell are nowhere near as good as Rennes but we are back with SPL refs so our road will still be hard. Looking forward to it more than I thought I would be.

    Many thanks, my friend.

Yes, it’s totally great to see a young player enter the big arena……

    I am optimistic.

I liked the way the Celts fought their way back into the game tonight.

Us Sammi lovers are enjoying this evening, I loved the lo9ok on my brothers face after the me highlighting his performance on more than one occasion. He was outstanding tonight. Big Sammi can split families ;-)

Loved tonight, had the pleasure of the beautiful wee Olivia and her not so beautiful (in looks anyway) Dad, Philbhoy;-) Unsure if they’ll come back and sit with the bjmac clan :-) Great seeing you Philbhoy, you can come back :-)

Well done Celtic against reasonable opposition, now lets pick it up from here – starting Sunday, looking forward to fir park coming round Sunday.

  13. Not long in from game, as far as performance goes, miles better than Saturday

but it was the spirt that they showed that pleased me most, it got better the longer

    the game went on, do not know how it looked on telly but Kayal { and i have been a critic lately }

did the work of two men in there tonight, his work off the ball was immense and once young victor

settles down and his passing improves, he will cement a place in the team for years to come, also

big well done to young Forrest, I think Commons looked hungry and up for it, we have to sort our

defending from set pieces thou which continues to haunt us, and last but not least the support were excellent

tonight especially when the celtic end rose to the challenge of the GB.

  14. Just in from the game….

One down in the first minute, we proceeded to get a chasing in the first half hour. I looked around the ground at this point, half empty, and could have cried for the European glory nights of the recent past.

Then we get a break, the keeper parries the ball and Stokes pounces.

Thereafter, I thought we gave disciplined European-type peformance. Tackles were being made and won, bodies placed on the line and, crucially, we took our chances.

The hard core support who went tonight were a credit to the club – the singing interchange between the Green Brigade and the Jock Stein Stand was once again wonderful.

I really hope its a springboard for us.

  15. Big Packie's Accent on

    Aw Naw

Not the old Sammi debate AGAIN.

    Ha Ha

A superb performance from him tonight,

Big ‘n’ strong ‘n’ clever ‘n’ working hard.

The bottom line is (at the end of the day (footballers speak))

that’s not usually what we get from him.

Every once in a while though we see the guy who turned up tonight.

Hats off to you Sammi, thank-you.

  16. Our crapness at zonal defending cannot be completely unrelated to the ever changing cast that is our back 4. Can it?

  17. sadiesbhoy : If you dont mind me asking, where do you know Tom Boyd from, school or Celtic boys club or somewhere else ?

  18. Wasn’t Sammy absolutely stunning tonight. Flick ons, passes, covering tackles, clearing headers, mazy runs…..superb.

    Hail Hail

The SFA training materials are very good but they tend to downplay tactics for boys and youth coaches. they concentrate on skills development exercises and training drills. They actively discourage talk of tactics because they fear the coaches will spend more time talking at the boys than they will on giving them football development.

The SFA can be slagged for many things but their training material is very good and admired Europe wide. I enjoyed the courses and one of my coach supervisors, Tommy McIntyre, is now at CP with our U-19s.

    ***********************

Theres more to that story amigo, about a year ago……as I walked behind the north stand with a few GB’ers towards the entrance at about 2pm, they passed a female steward and they both eyeballed each other, anyway the young lad who told me about this was a wee bit ahead of us when we turned the corner to enter 111, the same lad was against the wall with about 4/5 polis around him, one searching and another videoing him about 6 inches from his face, if it wasnt the 1st time I was going into the GB as a guest then I would have been right up there with my phone out videoing them and supporting the completely innocent supporter, I think its actually time to get a solicitor into the GB section to preserve the democratic right to support, thats whats at stake, and please don’t think its just the GB, because you’re next my friends in Celtic…. they are out to get every single one of us at their whim and pleasure.

Time to stand strong and stand together.

Just back in. Smells like team spirit!!!! Not a failure after a shaky start. Thank you Neil Francis. Thankyou Celtic. Thank you the fans. Pure brilliant night now let’s knock on. And big Sammy? Lost for words. Amazing. HH.

  22. Philbhoy,

Good to meet you sand dasughte tonight, as you say, her record continues.

  23. Next Gen:

Just a wee reminder – Marcus and the rest of the young lads take on Man City on Monday night (7th).

Would be nice if there was a decent turn out (tickets @ £5).

Some very good young lads in this squad.

  24. Just watched the goals again. What a pass from Forster for Sammi to flick on for the 2nd goal. And that’s the first time i’ve seen Hooper actually celebrate scoring a goal this season.

  25. Just this second in from work and absolutely delighted to posting after a very important win.

Work tonight meant that i cold not get anywhere near a computer for updates so was relying on friends and the 1st update (from inside paradise) inside a couple of minutes filled me with dread!!

Thank god the other updates were better and it sounded like a really stirring comeback and great european night.!!! We have missed that sensation so hear’s hoping it is the springboard for more of the same as sunday is a massive game again.

I am delighted for us all but especially for Lenny as he has taken quite some stick lately (some justified and some from myself) but all for the right reason i.e we want the best for Celtic.

Hail Hail and more of the same on sunday bhoys

  26. I have not had a close up view of the goal conceded in 2 minutes but what I did note was 2 adjustments made to corner defending in the second half.

Firstly Cha and one other Celt broke up the runs of their Phalanx of 4 Rennes players who looked to attack the ball outside our initial zone defence area along the six yard box. I assume the 2 Celts did a better job than they did at the Rennes opener.

Secondly our Zone defence advanced to meet them once they saw them persist with attempts to swing the ball out and away from the 6 yard box e.g when Victor made his diving clearance from their late left wing corner.

I also felt the Rennes delivery was flat and testing.

  27. brucecassavetes on

    That’s more like it, Celtic!

    Great attitude tonight.

Kayal, Stokes and Forrest were immense.

Forster, Paddy & big VW were great.

Fearing the worst after the first goal though. Please get this sorted!

Respect to the GB – best call and response for a while. The young boy and his girlfriend sitting next to me were in hysterics during the Huddle as well.

BTW, what’s the deal with the 7 cops at Exit 109? Always see 2 of them at section 209 with the camcorder.

    Anyway, roll on Sunday.

  28. pigalle @ 23:50

Aye, confidence improved as the game went on. It proves to me confidence has been this issue of late, and that doesn’t turn around in one game. Now we’re a few games into the turnaround, we all feel much better :) Beauty of it is, we can play even better than tonight when all the cylinders are all fired up. Nights like tonight are rewards for us Tims, but more special to me it was a just result for oor Lenny – i’m happy when i see the smile on that man’s coupon.

I’ve enjoyed SFA stuff so far.. Not saying I swallow it all but brilliant for ideas and keeping coaches motivated, which hopefully rubs off on the boys at training.

You can always gauge a ‘quality’ Celtic player by the lengths the media will go to, to erode his confidence…..I give you Sammi, for example….
