Right back challenge

913

We can convince ourselves we have players who can fill the right back role, and this may be true for a few more weeks, but Mikael Lustig was one of the frailties that cost us against AEK last August, and we don’t even have him now.

So far the transfer window has gone well, but a team is as well as its weakest link. Failure to get a right back who can stop crosses into the box has to be avoided.

That night in Athens is all the motivation we should need.

WHAT IS THE STARS on 14TH JULY 2019 11:41 PM

    Macjay

As you well know the Ulster Plantation was more to do with Ethnic Cleansing than Multi Culturism

    ==========================================================================

    No.

It was all about religion and attempts to convert the Irish to protestantism rather than murder the whole population.

About religion . Just as it was in Scotland and England.

As it is today in parts of Scotland and parts of Ireland.

The issue I was referring to was multiculturalism .

Norn. Irn was the most obvious example of the utter failure of an attempt by politicians to impose one culture on another.

The Irish rejected British culture . And quite right too .

But that wasn`t very multicultural of you , was it ?

  2. “The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart — and through all human hearts. … And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained.

I like this from Alexander Solzhenitsyn

    From one who knew.

There is a word very commonly used these days: “anti-communism.” It’s a very stupid word, badly put together. It makes it appear as though communism were something original, something basic, something fundamental. Therefore, it is taken as the point of departure, and anti-communism is defined in relation to communism. Here is why I say that this word was poorly selected, that it was put together by people who do not understand etymology: the primary, the eternal concept is humanity. And communism is anti-humanity. Whoever says “anti-communism” is saying, in effect, anti-anti-humanity. A poor construction. So we should say: that which is against communism is for humanity. Not to accept, to reject this inhuman Communist ideology is simply to be a human being. It isn’t being a member of a party.

  5. CQN good night n god bless … for some who didn’t want Neil as our manager (I thought Rafa was a sexy appointment without the actual sexiness :-) … some thought Neil shouldn’t be there for his own health ??? I think Neil Francis knows more than most posters or lurkers … and then some would blame the PLC for not protecting Neil … am pretty sure police Scotland knew there were hundreds if not even thousands of unhinged bigots in the near vicinity of Neil’s living area and I would be disappointed if Police Scotland weren’t aware of this situation …

Neil Lennon …. is Celtic 🍀

  6. GFTB,

There is no doubt that the most appealing appointment would have been Rafa Benitez.

Neil, is as you say, Celtic to the core. And I’m sure that Neil will deliver Everything we want over the next 2 Seasons.

Kieran Tierney what a Bhoy. Like your good self, I will be wanting him to become the best Left Back in the World. Either with Celtic or at another Club.

Imagine the Boost September the 1st and Kieran is still @ Celtic.

  7. There was a reason Brendan put KT on the bench @ the Factory of Hate…. when he was never gonnae play.

    That was weak Management.

  8. The Hun is getting bulkier players in.

We need to realise what is coming.

The first game against the Tax Cheats/Newco is @ the Factory of Hate.

We need the Bravest players out there for that specific game.

Having Kieran there would be Dynamite. ;))

  9. I’ve always liked Cricket, the Final was just incredible.

The Tennis was running alongside and it was also Incredible.

That Dive by Ben Stokes to get the run and then the subsequent 4 runs on top of the 2 was truly amazing – Ben held his hands up to apologise as it was accidental.

The Tennis was also pretty Special too. I Witnessed Novak survive Championship points. I was flicking between both events.

    COYBIG

The Real stuff starts this week.

Like me and you he has no time for the Sevco too :-)

  11. Good Morning, Fresh Summer’s Morn In The Chilterns…

    GFTB @ 12:02 AM,

Read that James Connolly piece, thought it was very interesting. Looking back, it’s obvious to see that the narrative has been changed to suit.

As far as I can see the debate on multiculturism and Ulster is a misnomer.

Having missed yesterday morning’s debate on multiculturism I’m specifically referencing last evening’s debate with regards Ulster.

Firstly it’s worth pointing out that the Ulster Plantations happened 400 years ago, it was the Williamite wars that were 300 years ago, so I’m not sure if the two are being conflated.

Suffice to say whatever way you define multiculturalism and here is one from Collins:

“Multiculturalism is a situation in which all the different cultural or racial groups in a society have equal rights and opportunities, and none is ignored or regarded as unimportant.

The Ulster Plantation was the opposite of multiculturalism. It was in fact as WiTS states a brutal attempt at ethnic cleansing the indigenious population.

The British had the power and the ability.

    I`ll tell you why.

Because that was not their intention.

    @@@@@

We will need to BUY in 5 or 6 big tough guys then ,

Because we have 4 or 5 first team picks at the moment who don’t fit the bill, and Neil is thinking of playing Forrest up as a no 10 , dear me . Tinytim and myself have Been saying for years we are too soft .which was proven on our last two visits to the Victorian lavvie . I’m afraid to say the Scouser knows how to play us. Playing beautiful Celtic football of which we are capable, won’t work against the 6ft 4 inch monsters the Scouser is buying . I only hope Neil Lennon sees what we are up against . Tin hat on .

  19. Looks like we took one helluva beating this weekend in the pre-season cup….

    Hold yer nerve csc

  20. Jimtim 9.18am

The Sevs gave only tasted victory against us twice since they were formed … the 29th of December when our previous manager hung the team out to dry … and their 2nd victory when Neil had already secured 8@row so maybe you & Tinytim have been worrying about nothing for all of those years :-)

Fair doo’s, just found it very interesting… hope all’s good with you and yours…

    MACJAY1 @ 8:40 AM,

Well I’m far from being an expert but from my perspective it wasn’t through lack of trying the British did not succeed, from the Norman times to the paras, it also should be noted they were far more than partially successful.

Looking at the period we are addressing we had; the nine years war, followed by the plantation, followed by the eleven years war followed by the Williamite wars.

These wars were complex, often part of vast European conficts or extensions of British Isles civil wars. The might of Britian could not be brought against Ireland and often the Irish had allies e.g. the Spanish (nine years war) and French (Williamite war*).

*Remember, William of Orange was responsible for the Massacre of Glencoe.

Donegal was especially difficult to conquer, the natives had local knowledge of the forests and mountains.

If you look at the ethnic cleasing of the troublsome Gael, from the Ulster Plantation, through the eviction of the Gaels (highland clearances) to the great famines and beyond. You will see, it was not for lack of trying by the British that the Gael is still around.

    Hail Hail

  24. MacJay; Maybe I should add, when the population of England was five million, the population of Ireland was seven million.

So not the one sided battle you’d imagine today.

    Hail Hail

Respect for your overview of the British political scene of the day .

    With which I fundamentally disagree.

Ignoring the religious aspect of the day also ignores Elizabeth 1 , Henry V111, Mary QoS , James1 and James 11.

Cromwell`s issue and intention was the imposition of protestantism on the rebellious Catholic Irish .

Why would they wish to ” ethnically cleanse ” those whom they wished to employ as serfs ?

Why were the Irish encouraged to convert to protestantism , as they were ?

Political domination and the imposition of protestantism was what it was all about.

    As it was in Scotland.

Meanwhile , the topic was multiculturalism .

The Ulster plantation was an example of imposed multiculturalism.

    How did that work ?

    Any parallels today ?

  26. So have I got it right ?

We buy big tall guys “aye they can play a bit but slow on the turn a wee quick player will do them ”

The ringers buy big brutes and our wee jinkers will never get by them ……

  27. Maybe we’d be better off with Multi-tolerance anyhoo, hope you all had are having a great weekend.

Catchyeez… Kevj hope your well 🙏👍

  28. And a writer in the seventeenth century, the son of one of the ministers who came over with the first plantation, Mr. Stewart, is quoted by Lecky in his History of England in the Eighteenth Century, as saying:

“From Scotland came many, and from England not a few, yet all of them generally the scum of both nations, who from debt, or breaking the law or fleeing from justice, or seeking shelter, come hither, hoping to be without fear of man’s justice in a land where there was nothing, or but little as yet, of the fear of God … On all hands Atheism increased, and disregard of God, iniquity abounded, with contentious fighting, murder, adultery.”
