Whyte’s proxy set to step forward for acceptance by SFA, SPL

984

When Duff and Phelps put their initial deadline in place for bidders for Rangers back in March, Celtic Quick News took the view that Craig Whyte was the only show in town and that any successful bid for the company’s assets would have to come from him or his proxy.

We didn’t know who his proxy would be then and we are still not sure – although we could have a pretty good guess.

Place the current SPL and SFA dramas aside for a moment.  If a deal is done to allow a Rangers-Newco to apply to play football next season the new ‘owner’ will be a Craig Whyte appointment.

If this unfolds in the days to come, I fully expect the SFA will take a very long time to consider any Fit and Proper questions, and I expect the SPL board will vote 4-1 to allocate a share in the league to the Newco.

Celtic, united with their own fans, and fans of the Gang of 10 clubs stand in one corner.  The boards of the Gang of 10 want Rangers-Newco money too much to object.  Don’t even count on Newco being subject to the penalties discussed at yesterday’s meeting.

A CQN’er is raising funds for the Wellburn Care Home in Dundee.  Run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, Welburn offers incredible residential support for those in need in the Dundee area.  It is only a viable concern through the dedication of the sisters and volunteers and fundraising initiatives such as sales of work, coffee mornings etc.

You can support their work by bidding for a Celtic top signed by the first team squad at this eBay auction.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

We have to start trusting that good will prevail somewhere and I would put that trust in Celtic before anywhere else.

The longer this goes on the more discredited the save Rangers at all cost case becomes.

A Newco will need a licence to play in the SPL. The granting of one is the job of the SFA. Licenses are NOT transferrable, no wriggle room. The UEFA FFP criteria apply, Newco cannot meet them, an exception case has to be made to UEFA. That case can only have a commercial justification. It is where the commercial rubber hits integrity road. UEFA have choices to make

”I do not see how Celtic can say or do anything at this moment in time.”

They could make it clear to the rest of the SPL either in public or in private (which of course they may have done) that Celtic will resign from the SPL if a newco huns is allowed immediate entry.

That would negate every single argument in favour of the proposal.

Don’t worry so is he. I presume he’s talking of the Bill Miller model. OldCo still exists but NewCo has the infrastructure and license to playe football.

There’s one major problem with that route. The OldCo still exists for HMRC to serve the Big Tax Bill to. How are OldCo going to pay that if they have no operational income? Answer: they can’t and will be wound up accordingly.

So while it may be true that a model exists whereby immediate liquidation of OldCo isn’t required, it’s inevitable in the medium/long term.

  4. Does Newco mean “new company” if it’s a new company how can it be the “old company” and how can you have a Newco without liquidation?

I will hold off until there is clarity. I will not pay to watch a league which is biased against clubs which pay taxes and debts. If thems get back in scot free then the spl is condoning and abetting cheating at sport and cheating of taxes.

I love Celtic but why pay £550 to take my daughter to watch a rigged and dishonest league?

There are too many unknowns at the minute. SPL rules allow for (providing a vote of the board) the transfer of shares from one company to another. Celtic can’t simply threaten to resign because the company they are a member of is enforcing its rules.

If new rules are brought in and Celtic have voted against them and been consistent throughout then, that is the time for action.

I don’t think now is the time but it is getting close.

  10. It’s frustating that we are looked on as non involved observers as the pro-NewCo Cabal fix the Phoenix.

But I think Celtic PLC and management, coaching staff, players et al have played this very well, obviously they are all aware. Lenny said if he’d been cheated out of Titles and Trophies he’d have something to say about it. I’m sure he will at the right time.

So it shoud be for the PLC, Lord Reid hit it on the head when he said he didn’t want to intrude on private grief. We should be fighting hard behind the scenes but leaving our public utterances to the basic & bland.

I hope the PLC are working on the contingencies and coaches are working on the CL qualifiers.

The cracks are beginning to show, I believe there is civil war in Scottish Football those who caused it don’t care a damn. I don’t think we’ve heard the last of the Topping tale.

It was bad enough having it proven that the past couple of decades have been an outrageous farce where one team has flaunted the rules and won trophies and revenues illegally. Now they have been caught but it matters not a jot, we have to keep turning up to keep them all afloat?

  13. Not renewing Celtic season tickets and indeed boycotting Celtic matches is only going to harm Celtic.

A better way to protest would be to boycott all away grounds, cancel all sky/ESPN etc and only spend money on Scottish football that goes direct to Celtic.

If the smaller clubs in the SPL can’t do without Rangers and the supporters they bring, the same applies to Celtic.

My main hope is that when the dirty deal is done,is that we have the calibre of person on the Board who hasn’t got to where they are today by allowing themselves to be dumped on.

I don’t think that DD or Denis O’Brien will just roll over.

I would suggest that very few, if any, of our shareholders have invested for financial reasons.

Threatening to resign from the SPL is not the same as resigning from the SFA.

In 1968, Bob Kelly challenged EUFA over allowing Soviet Bloc countries to compete, after the invasion of Czechoslovakia.Us or them.

Speaking purely from a personal point of view I won’t be taking any action in order to “punish” Celtic (although I realise that by not buying a season ticket they will suffer to some extent) – if I decide not to renew it is because the whole system within Scottish Football will have been changed to accommodate the cheating, corrupt and shameless entity that is Hunsfc and that by not doing EVERYTHING within their power to stop it then Celtic have rolled over.

You’d have to ask whether it is worthwhile watching it at all.

As I said earlier, I live in hope though.

Turning up at Celtic games only gives Celtic money. Don’t go to away games especially Ibrox as this will cut down all these teams revenues.

Celtic winning the league and associated CL monies will keep us stronger than any other side and Rangers (in whatever guise they may end up) will not be able to cheat anymore and will become no threat at all.

As for deadlines for buying….what do deadlines mean in Scotland anyway?

  26. Let’s just for a moment assume that Bill Miller succeeds, that all of the legal, structural and financial impediments are removed and a Newco plays in the SPL next season. He then has a debt free club in the SPL for which he has paid £11M or so.

If he decides to sell up immediately, how much could he reasonably expect to make?
