  1. I’m as deflated as any other (genuine) Tim………….

…….I heard the line that the League Table never lies……?

It patently does and only reflects the standards accepted by those in Scotland’s game. Now’s not the time perhaps……

We were poor and wasteful today – we were also unlucky and had we sneaked one in at the end the mood would have been different but the paucity of quality in the remaining squad would have been the same.

That’s a function of the Executive and an inexplicable aberration beyond my understanding.

  2. Pep or Jose would struggle with the guys we have at present!

I would be confident they’d beat Livi and Dundee Utd and having us sitting above mid table.

  3. At the forthcoming AGM it would be interesting to learn why the Chairman believes that “Over the transfer window, post year end, we successfully accomplished a major overhaul of our playing squad”.

  4. I normally give a new manager until October to show me his team philosophy and preferences. Well, it’s nearly October and, while I accept, we have been unlucky with injuries, and very late to appoint a manager and, therefore, allow, him to recruit in time, I feel I have to comment now.

I consider Sevco to be a very soft target to overtake in the league but there are increasing signs that we are not hard enough to be the ones who oust them. :ast year they were invncible in SPFL matches but we are seeing them at their true worth now and they are eminently beatable but they are also 6 points clear after 7 matches, not a lot but not a little either when you consider our recent form.

We started to produce a version of ANge-Kyogo ball which has gradually disappeared since Kyogo got crocked. Jota did his best to cary the flag today but with only occasional help from Rogic and Abada, he was fighting a losing battle. The signs arre there that some players are beginning to forget Angeball in the same way that Players forgot Deila ball too. We are still producing quik restarts and not allowing the opposition breathers when the ball goes out of play but that is the only vestige I am seeing. A quick ball out from Joe Hart quickly gets turned back when players look ahead and see every player marked and hampered by an opposition marker, so the ball goes back or sideways to CBs and full backs and DMs (McCarthy and Soro) who have lost interest in breaking the lines and putting the opposition out of their prefered shape.

Starfelt is a limited player and is playing well within his limitations; he is a safety first man which is no good when you are behind or drawing. Ralston and CCV can cope with the physical challenges of SPFL but are finding it harder to inf;uence our attacks. Starfelt needs dropped and young Adam had a very bad day today, which is going to happen with young players.

James McCarthy likes a slow pace and being in control, he was subbed because he was not doing what the manager asked of him. He was replaced by Soro who is busier but rarely in control of the ball and regularly loses it. David Turnbull looked for work but his passing was way off today and, if we had anyone worthwhile on the bench, would surely have been subbed. Big Tam dribbled and flicked his way through the game and tried to lead; sometimes it even came off but he had little support. Ajeti skied a sitter and rarely looked like losing either of their lumbering CBs. Abada was in and out of the game but scored a goal and made a nuisance of himself. Jota worked his socks off an dwas very good but could find no-one to be very good with.

Ange subbed McCarthy early enough and Juranovic was off injured before he got going but no more subs were made because he did not fancy any of the subs.

I am not writing the manager off this early but I am worrying about our league position this early which is not good. If we get Kyogo, Forrest and Dembele back we can spell players but who will spell the unproductive Ajeti? Will Welsh or Scales get the chance to show more bravery than Starfelt? It may all be moot. We are playing youngsters like Montgomery and Welsh before they have earned their first team chance but outr biggest need is an alternative to AJeti.

I am sure, Ange will recruit well in January but I hope we are still in the league race by then.. Maybe htere’s a free agent central Striker out there who can do us a turn meantime.

I don’t want him sacked – that would just set us back even further

    —-

Only because this Board would appoint Kennedy as interim.

If I’d any confidence whatsoever in this Board to make a prompt and telling appointment, I’d empty Ange now.

  6. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    Agree 100% Bankie.

When I saw the bench I thought we’d be in trouble if the starting 11 wasn’t up to the job.

Alas, it wasn’t and there was no one to come off the bench to change it.

  7. I’m sure many readers and posters have played at various levels. This guy is a very poor pub team mgr. Very poor. Why? Look at the stats if soro. Ajetti. Rogic. Turnbull. Truly truly awful. And yet Ange sends them out. I asked earlier, who was worst today. So many truly disgusting performances by so called footballers, but not a one – off. Ajetti is always the same. Rubbish. Turnbull has become totally crap. Rogic. Don’t get me started on soro. It’s very simple if you want to understand it- look at the stats. Yet ap lets them back on. He has no tactics, no clue, no charisma. Last season was horrible – yet this season ap makes lenny look like pep.

Sack him now. Get st Johnson mgr. Simples.

  8. To have the skill and artistry to create those chances..

And be done 3 times by 6 inches……How is that poor finishing??????

Now our pretend number 9…….well ..feck me…..

The guys we have at present are still better on paper than what Dundee United or Livingston can put out.

With respect, I don’t think it is nonsense. Abada could’ve played through the middle with Montgomery out wide. Not saying it would’ve worked but standing with your arms folded just hoping that something will change is a sure way for the game to peter out.

We know the issues with the board; we know Ange has a big job on his hands. However, that doesn’t make him immune. He still has larger resources than the teams he’s being beaten by and is responsible for the coaching. We don’t look fit, we lack urgency and lack ideas.

I’m not putting this all on Ange and no, I don’t want him sacked but nobody should be immune from criticism and his comments that we played in a way that “the fans want to see” doesn’t fill me with confidence.

  10. Ange also inherited Christopher Jullien. Can he rely on Chris when he is finally fit ?

It should be remembered that before this latest long term injury, Chris was out injured with knee and back injuries.

Hopefully Chris will be back soonest so we can evaluate if we need to look at a January signing.

One of the CQN (ubiquitous) adverts say ” New Celtic Boss grew up with poster of Kenny Dalglish on his wall” Hmmm…. I suspect it was when he was wearing the red shirt of Liverpool.

    #outofhisdepth

  12. @Timmy7 Aye mate a bit early for crucifying the Manager.

I sometime wonder if the more angry posts are down to said poster…….

Having a right good punt at the bookies on the Tic……

    Who knows eh?

  13. Last season we had a myriad of excuses as we turned logic on its head and criticised those who were demanding of more.

Derogatory names were formed and thrown around casually.

Please God, let’s not have another season of that.

CQN should be the site of honesty, maturity and logical arguments.

The season has stayed poorly and I do not believe we have had enough of a change from last season as we should have.

It looks like Ange for Neil and hope for the best.

Out team is full of small, skilful, physically weak players.

  14. We are badly missing Cal Mac. Probably missing a Christie style player too.

I was concerned about todays game with the number if injuries we have.

I’ll keep saying it but Rogic and Turnbull should not start in the same team. I don’t think they would if we had McGregor fit. However, while they are both playing, the defensive midfield player needs to sit deep. McCarthy more or less did, but Soro was giving the ball away while in advanced positions and as a result we had no one covering the defence.

It’s a game we should still have won.

On the penalty incident, watch it back. Starfelt is fouled and that’s why he loses the ball. Clear push in the back.

On the bright(ish) side, Ababa and Jota look the part.

Sticking my neck out here but I think we will still win the league. We’ve seen 6, 9, 12 point deficits made up and similar leads squandered in the past.

I live in hope. I find it a happier place to be.

  15. I have no idea whether Ange will be a success, sadly neither do the tory board, that’s what happens when you appoint someone in a panic without a plan.

No plan and no idea but bankier believes the board had a good summer, absolute joke.

I accepted at the start of the season that we would possibly win nothing.

I cannot and will not judge the manager until he has his own players and a fully fit squad to pick from.

A few folk forget the mess that Lennon and his cronies left us in, that does not get put right over night.

  17. It’s going to be a long rebuild though it’s hitting me more and more that this is it – this is the quality we’ll have for a ling time

  18. @ SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 26TH SEPTEMBER 2021 5:53 PM

Most of what you are saying comes down to the hand Ange has been dealt and not his coaching bona fides.

We had ÂŁ20m in the bank at 30 June after a global pandemic. A once in a lifetime (at least we all hope) event. If after that, we still have ÂŁ20m+, you have to wonder what the hell we are saving it for?

We are letting an impecunious Rangers win the league, when we are the only team with money to do anything about it.

Zero accountability or change in the boardroom following last year has led us to the position we are in.

  19. Ange Postecoglou “We’re disappointed with the outcome obviously but in terms of our approach to the game and the way we played, the manner in which we took the game to them, I think it’s exactly what our supporters want to see.”

  20. Small observation but one thing we could work on (among many) is the way we organise runs into the box in attacking situations. A couple of times the players were all ahead of cut backs from wide players, one player arriving a second later to the edge of the box or penalty spot area gives you a much better chance if scoring.

  21. ROBERTTRESSELL

I’m generally a glass half full guy when it comes to Celtic but the blind loyalty does no one any favours. Our shambolic summer is coming home to roost I don’t see any silver lining.

  22. Sack the board.

The Lennon/Howe debacle could haunt us for years.

It’s their shitshow that AP is trying to manage.

He should get more out of those players though, against your Livingstone’s and Dundee Utd’s.

We let 11 I think go and brought in 12 and about 5 of them are projects 1 was not fit to play right away wtf, so we were always light in quality/quantity .

A shambles behind the scenes at Celtic our board are a disgrace.

Aye . Jullien injured himself colliding with the post as he had to do a 3 point turn to try to get back goalside of the attacker.

  24. “Our team is full of small, skillful, physically weak players.”

Yup…..( but even the technical skills are patchy)

A bit more brawn like CCV needed but what happens when they get fouled, booted, injured?

To win Scotland’s league Celtic need reinforcements.

  25. Even if we take our injuries into account and the fact we have a thin squad, we had over ÂŁ30m worth of talent on the pitch today.

And people say that Pep or Klopp couldn’t have beaten Livingston or Dundee United?

  26. @GEEBEE1978 on 26TH SEPTEMBER 2021 6:04 PM

“With respect, I don’t think it is nonsense. Abada could’ve played through the middle with Montgomery out wide. Not saying it would’ve worked but standing with your arms folded just hoping that something will change is a sure way for the game to peter out.”

Abada is a 5’6 winger and 19 years old. Montgomery turned 19 in July. At least recognise the paucity of options for Ange when criticising him, it’s only fair.

“We know the issues with the board; we know Ange has a big job on his hands. However, that doesn’t make him immune. He still has larger resources than the teams he’s being beaten by and is responsible for the coaching. We don’t look fit, we lack urgency and lack ideas.”

I agree he is responsible, but having to play the same 13 players week on week, with no other attacking options makes life quite difficult. We have played 7 games in Europe this season already – that takes it out of the squad and performances suffer.

Ange said we desperately needed a fitness coach and a strength and conditioning coach. Our guy left in June and we got his replacement in two weeks ago. The replacement came from Morton. Makes you wonder what took them so long to get the replacement in. Almost as if they are incompetent.
